Is Recovery from Methamphetamines Possible

Nichole Beard
Is recovery from methamphetamines possible? This question is asked a lot in today's society. As a recovering addict myself I would like to give you some facts on the subject.

Methamphetamine is the legal name for it but there are several names on the street for example ice, crystal, tweek, crank, glass, and many more. Meth is a very addictive drug and hard to get over. There are different levels of high it all depends on how you intake it in your body. You can smoke it, snort it, eat it or shoot it. I personally have never shoot up but I have seen many people who have although no matter how you do it, if you have gone that far it is less likely to recover with out relapse.

Meth is an upper and can keep you up for days at a time. Chronic use can cause paranoia, hallucinations, repetitive behavior (such as compulsively cleaning, grooming or disasembling and assembling objects), and delusions of parasites or insects crawling under the skin. Users can obsessively scratch their skin to get rid of these imagined insects. You don't eat so you lose a lot of weight fast. The drug eats at your muscles and teeth. A long time user normally won't have teeth or they will become black and rotted.

This is a schedule 2 drug which means even the residue in a baggy is a felony charge. Having more then a sixteenth can put you in prison for years. Trafficking can put you away for life. It is a drug that has ruined many lives and families, and recovery as I have said is very hard.

You have to be ready to recover for yourself or you won't stay sober. Moving to another state will not keep you sober, meth is everywhere and not hard to find. It takes a lot of will power to beat the addiction but it can be done. It's all in your mind. It takes 14 months before your brain even starts to heal from the chemical alteration the drug has caused, so to even get over the craving takes at least this long. The meth puts holes in your brain that you will never recover from. Meth can also cause strokes and death. Like heroin you build a tolerance fast, making your body need more to even get high. After the first high you just chance it trying to get high. The statistics show one out of every 4 people use meth. Think you don't know any one who does it think again.

I hide my addiction for 5 years I was a functioning addict went to work took care of my kid's even hide the effects on my body for some years but eventually the drug took over.

I lost everything and was in jail, I had hit my bottom that turned my life around. Most of the time an addict must hit this breaking point in order to sober up. So as I said in the beginning can recovery be done? Yes but it is not easy and it takes a lot of work I have been sober now for 2 and a half years and now have my life back.
