Is Robert Pattinson Quitting Acting?

Is Robert Pattinson quitting acting? That's what fans are asking based on recent interviews Robert Pattinson has given to various news outlets. If Robert Pattinson is quitting acting, why would he do so given all the money and all the fame that he has received?

In the recent Seventeen Magazine, Robert Pattinson, the 23 year old star of Twilight and the Twilight sequel New Moon, hints on quitting acting. He says, "I don't even know if I want to be an actor that long. I don't even know how to be someone else... if I start doing lame work, I'm not going to stick around and do it."

Does Robert Pattinson consider his role as Edward Cullen in Twilight lame work? Does he consider Twilight a lame movie? It's true that Twilight is not The Deer Hunter or Sophie's Choice or The Departed or some other serious movie that qualifies for a lot of Academy Awards, but Twilight was not a bad movie. The story was strong enough to keep you interested, and the acting on both Robert Pattinson's part and Kristen Stewart's part was strong.

If Robert Pattinson is quitting acting, his recent comments really make one wonder. Pattinson played the lover of poet Federico Garcia Lorca as a young Salvador Dali in Little Ashes. He had sex on screen, for the first time, with a man. As reported in Sawfs News, says Robert Pattinson, "I had to do all these hard-core gay sex scenes, when I haven't even had a sex scene with a girl in a film yet." Whether he was uncomfortable with the gay sex or not is unclear. What is clear is that the role was nothing like playing Edward Cullen.

What I like about Kristen Stewart is that her choices of roles have been wise. I first noticed her in Into the Wild. I also saw her in Adventureland. Neither of these films attracted an audience of screaming teens. Both were critically acclaimed award winners. Kristen Stewart will appear as Joan Jett in The Runaways. Sounds like another good role.

Robert Pattinson is also a musician and contributed two songs to Twilight. One of the songs is included on Twilight's official soundtrack. As reported in the Los Angeles Times, Robert Pattinson may go into music if acting fails.

However, If Robert Pattinson is quitting acting, he shouldn't. He made a good choice with the young Salvador Dali. He's had to deal with screaming fans, cameras in his face and everything that comes along with becoming a superstar. But he needs to learn how to handle fame and do a mixture of movies like Kristen Stewart has done. No one considers Kristen Stewart a poor actress, despite Twilight. Robert Pattinson can have his cake and eat it too with this approach.

No offense, but being a pretty boy in a sexy show does not equal talent. And kudos to him for realizing it!

If he can survive the Twilight series and sex scenes, he can handle acting :D He should stick with it. Good reporting.
