Is Robert Pattinson's Popularity Declining?

The 37^th People's Choice Awards were held on January 5^th in Los Angeles, with an array of the world's most prolific stars in attendance. The People's Choice Award winners are - as you might expect - chosen by the public, but this year's results gave us a few surprises. In the category of Favourite Movie Star Under 25, Robert Pattinson lost out on the prize to Zac Efron. Robert Pattinson is usually the runaway winner when the awards are voted for by the people, so it begs the question: Is Robert Patttinson mania coming to an end?

Robert Pattinson has been one of the best loved movie stars of recent years after he starred as Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" movies. For the past two years, Robert Pattinson has won almost every award he was nominated for, including two rather unflattering "Razzies"! Most of the awards he has won were voted for by the general public such as former People's Choice and Teen Choice prizes for Best Movie Actor and a few Best Kiss awards shared with his "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart.

If rumours are to be believed, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are an off-screen couple as well as an on-screen couple. This news has been circulating for well over a year with no confirmation coming from either of the stars. However, towards the end of 2010, the rumours were stepped up a little and news came out that Robert Pattinson was flying all over the world to be with his girl. It is also believed that the pair spent New Year together and RPattz reportedly flew to this year's People's Choice awards to be with Stewart for an hour before heading back to the set of "Breaking Dawn"!

Could this be the reason for Robert Pattinson's slight popularity decline? Teenage girls are notorious for their crushes on movie stars and tend to slightly lose interest when said stars become involved in a relationship. Newly single Zac Efron has been a favourite since his High School Musical days but now he is no longer linked with Vanessa Hudgens, perhaps he is set to have a another surge of interest.

Whether this is just a small blip in Robert Pattinson's popularity remains to be seen. This year alone, Robert Pattinson has three movies due for release, including "Breaking Dawn Part One", and "Water for Elephants" with Reese Witherspoon. "Breaking Dawn" alone could be enough to put him back on the radar as one of the world's most loved actors but with his move into more serious films becoming more prominent, there is a chance his fans may simply move on to the next big thing.
