Is it Safe for Your Pet to Fly?

Mary Kirkland
More and more people see their pets as part of their family and we care for them as such. Since going on vacation or a holiday is such a big part of our lives as well, it's only natural to want to bring our furry family members along. But can our pets safely travel with us and enjoy the experience?

How to make the experience more enjoyable for your pet

First make sure you have a good sturdy carrier to place your pet in and make sure your pet is comfortable being inside it with the door closed. While getting your pet to accept the container, give them treats as a reward so they will associate the carrier with a treat.

Charter a Private Jet

While this might sound crazy or expensive to some, if you love your pet and are afraid for their safety on a regular airline there are alternatives to flying you might not know about. OneSky Jets is a private charter service that is safe and reliable. Why put your pet under a regular aircraft when they can fly inside a comfortable cabin.

What you should know before taking your pet with you

Let's face it, if you watch TV news at all, you have heard the horror stories of how pets either get lost, out of their crates or accidentally killed. If you wouldn't put grandma down in the hold with the luggage, why would you think it's alright to put the furry member of your family down there?

Accidental pet deaths, misplaced pets and pets getting lost on airlines, happen all the time and can happen to anyone. According to Extra "At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Thursday May 13, 2010 an airplane carrying members of the John Travolta family landed at BIA. While there, two small dogs on leashes were taken for walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the aircraft and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately the dogs were struck and killed... the Airport is investigating the accident."

Pets can travel with us but the more important question is, should they travel with us? If your pet is easily stressed, has health problems or you are only going to be gone for a short amount of time. It might be better for your pet to be left at home with a reliable pet sitter.

Great information. I think it would be better to let them have a vacation with a safe loving friend or good pet service at home.
