Is Sarah Palin the 21st Century Version of Richard Nixon?

There are some political analyst who are commenting that Sarah Palin is utilizing Richard Nixon's comeback strategy after Nixon's loss in the governor's race for California in 1962. Richard Nixon was in the political wilderness from 1962 until 1968. During that period Nixon campaigned for Barry Goldwater's, 1964 unsuccessful Presidential run. He also worked behind the scene in Republican circles during that period.

Popular thought among the political pundits have a claimed that Sarah Palin is embarked on that similar comeback strategy. We should compare the personality traits of Richard Nixon and Sarah Palin. Let us review the famous news conferences first from Richard Nixon at the end of his political campaign to that of Sarah Palin July 3, 2009 announcement.

It was during that fall of 1962 press conference that Richard Nixon made that famous bitter quote "You will not have Richard Nixon to kick around anymore". Nixon was bitterly referring to the local press coverage of his political campaign. He was fuming about that coverage.

On July 3, 2009 during a surprised held news conference that was held on a late Friday afternoon, Sarah Palin spent the news conference blaming the liberal media, the outside liberal Democrat's for her ethics problems. She was claiming that it is not fair for a "lame duck "governor to serve out the rest of their term battling ethic charges. Can you image Richard Nixon resigning from the Watergate scandal to be fair to the American taxpayers?

One thing that I can say about Richard Nixon is that he is not a quitter. He fought until the political landscape left him no other option but to resign in lieu of certain Congressional impeachment. During the famous "Checkers speech" on September 23, 1952, Nixon admitted having a political slush fund and accepted one gift for a Cocker spaniel for his daughter. That speech saved Nixon's political career.

Sarah Palin has a pattern of resigning from political offices. She was the director of a 529 political fund raising group who supported Alaska's Ted Stevens. It was alleged that Sarah Palin resigned due to the groups violating ethical complaints, violations of the legal rules of campaign contributions. As most of you are aware she served on the Alaska Oil and Gas Commission from 2003 to 2004. She resigned from that commission as well. While serving as the mayor of Wasila, Alaska, she block an initiative that would require the public filing of building permits. It just so happened that her husband Todd and a "few friends" were building their own house that they now occupy.

Are the ethics charges a matter of the politics of personal destruction from the liberal media, and outside liberal Democrats? Is there a national conspiracy against Sarah Palin? Or is it a manner of the Sarah Palin sense of entitlement, arrogance and haughty behavior the root cause of Sarah Palins ethics issues. Or does Sarah Palin think that ethics rules are not applicable to her?

Richard Nixon's personality traits reveiled a tendency show him to have exhibited extreme paranoid tendencies, an extreme sensitivity from criticism from the liberal media, liberal elites. Those are some of the same personality traits that Sarah Palin exhibits. Nixon never really trusted anybody and Sarah Palin is famous for her lack of trust.

Richard Nixon learned to use the media to his advantage in that famous "Checkers speech", but he lost the television viewing audience in his debate against John F. Kennedy. Sarah Palin has grasp of how to manipulate today's media outlets with setting up her face book her twitter account. She relishes in her role of playing the victim card. Being picked on from the nasty liberal media elites and those liberal west coast Hollywood types.

Both Nixon and Sarah Palin have a tend Nancy to say anything that would promote the interest of themselves. However, Sarah Palin will pin her problems on the "politics of personal destruction".

During his 1950s California Senate run Richard Nixon defeated his Democratic opponent by tying her Congressional voting record to that of the goals of the Communist party. This earned him the nickname "Tricky Dick".

During the 2008 political campaign Sarah Palin often accused Barack Obama of "paling around with terrorist" During the famous interviews with CBS news she showed a stunning lack of knowledge and substance of national and international issues.

Richard Nixon on the other hand showed an intense knowledge in books he had a comprehensive grasp of both the national and international issues. Nixon knew his political landscape and know how the winds were blowing. He was a political pragmatist who looked out for his political survival.

Sarah Palin is a true believer in the conservative policies. She will demonize her opponents while playing into the hot button issues of the conservative right wing politics. Sarah Palin will soon be either a commentator with Fox News or have her own political show. However, while she is appealing to her base, she will never win over the moderates or liberals across the country.
