Is Sarah Palin Ready to Help Run the United States?

Rosa Hayes
We have all learned that Sen. John McCain has chosen his vice presidential nominee as Sarah Palin and yet not many know much about her. I recently learned through a search on the internet that Sarah Palin had been involved in a scandal that led to an investigation. Palin was accused of firing Safety Commisioner Walt Monegon with no explanation after he refused to fire trooper Michael Wooten, who was once married to Palin's sister, as reported by KTVA.

There isn't much that I have heard on the news about Sen. John McCain's new VP pick being in a scandal that involved abusing her power, but it is all over the internet. I sat and watched the acceptance speech from Palin after she was chosen as McCain's running mate, and I couldn't help but wonder what kind of vice president that she would make.

Many are circling about on the internet, trying to find as much as they can about Palin. So far I am stumped by all that has been listed about her. I know that she is a mother of five and that the youngest was born in April with Down syndrome. I don't know if they were thinking about what it takes to be a good mom to someone who has Down syndrome and the attention that they require. I have a cousin who has a son with Down syndrome and I see a lot of the struggles that they have together. My cousin is a good mom but she is also not going to help run this country.

Palin also stated her children's names and their age during the acceptance speech for VP pick and with it she pointed out that her oldest son enlisted in the United States army on September 11, 2007. With a child in the military, it can be hard, and I support those that are fighting for our country. But what would happen if her son happened to die while enlisted?

I feel that she is more than qualified to help run this country, but she also has a lot of things on her hands and a large family with a son that is going to need her to help him.

McCain feels that he has found the right partner, but many doubt it. I have been watching the Headline News on HNWS and the comments that McCain is getting over whom he chose for his running mate shows exactly what many feel about it. There have been comments about the Palin scandal and how the United States can not afford more scandals and comments on how she should be focused on her newborn instead of trying to run a family and the country.

Like mother, like daughter. We all know Sarah Palin's daughter conceived a child out of wedlock and will probably be rushed to marry the father. But how many know Sarah Palin did the same thing in 1988? Her marriage date was 8/29/88. Her first child was born 4/20/89. Do the math and you'll see he arrived at least 5-6 weeks early but was a full term baby. Figures don't lie. She set the example for her daughter. Incidentally, her daughter will need lot's of support because of media pressure. The new grandchild will need care in addition to what it will get from the 2 new teenage parents. Sarah's own Downs Syndrome boy will need lots of extra care and medical testing in his early months. This woman should have turned down this position. Her husband and her and John McCain have all exercised terrible judgement and the American people may suffer.

Carly you are exactly right. Her name is not June Cleaver!!! Guess what women can vote too! Kennedy must have been an awful man having 2 young children but still chose to be president of the United States. And it seems Palin's age and experience seem to match OBAMA! What's the fuss! She reminds me of Mr. Smith goes to Washington!

Ah Rosa, don't play the mom card. Many men handle their offices with newborns at home, so why not her? I actually had a doctor once who had a house husband and they were quite satisfied with the arrangement. Since she made the most money, it made the most sense that he be the soccer dad and PTA dad... moms with special needs children juggle their professional and personal iives all the time. It is simply unfair to have media painting her as a bad mom for not staying home with her special needs son. A man with a special needs child would not get the same treatment.
