Are you related to a senior citizen who is single? Whether that individual be one of your parents, your grandparents, or another close relative, do you wish that they were not alone? If so, you are definitely not alone. Each day, a large number of individuals wish that their senior relatives had someone special in their life. That is why a large number of individuals, maybe even you, push their senior relatives to start dating gain. But the important question is are they ready?

When it comes to determining whether or not your senior relative, whether it be your mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, or so on, is ready to date, there are a number of important factors that should be taken into consideration. After a close examination, you will find that most of those factors revolve around the wants and the needs of your relative. That is why, when it comes to determining whether or not your senior relative is ready to date, it is important that you make the decision with them, not without them.

Perhaps, the most important factors that needs to be examined is whether or not your senior relative wants to date at all. Although senior dating is rapidly increasing in popularity, there are still a relatively large number of seniors who just do not feel comfortable dating. There is a good chance that your senior relative may feel the same way. Whether their partner recently passed away or if they are just not interested in having anything more than a friendship, you need to keep their wants in mind. Pushing your senior relative, no matter who it be, into the senior dating scene before they are ready may not give you the results that you were looking for and it may even cause a rift in your relationship.

As previously mentioned, it is important to take into consideration how long your senior relative has been single. If your senior relative spent a large portion of their life with their partner, there is a good chance that they may not be interested in dating anytime soon. Some senior citizens feel comfortable dating a year or two after their loved one has passed, but others can't move on for five or more years, if ever. It is important that you allow your senior relative, whether it be your mother, father, grandmother, or grandfather, to grieve for their loss, no matter how much time it takes. In many cases, you will find that when the time is right they will let you know.

It is also important to remember that senior dating isn't the only option that your senior relative has. All across the United States, there are a number of establishments that house senior activities on a daily or weekly basis. These activities may include games of bingos or senior dances. Even if your senior relative is not ready to start a relationship, they may enjoy just getting out and making new friends. You never know, but those friendships could turn into to more. If not, there is no harm done and at least your relative will walk away with a close friend.

It's all the baggage, fears and apprehensions that keep us seniors from dating. There are the physical challenges, the fear of rejection and the fear of being with a loser. How does one navigate the dating field in an informed way? Do we do background checks, i.e. credit, marital/domestic, criminal, job and medical history? If so, how and when.
