Is Society's Addiction to Gadgets a Modern Menace?

Slim, streamlined, and a great nuisance to use, this is what gadgets are.

I seriously am surprised to see that most people are still not tired of this buzz that all started when pocket phones, the size of houses, were first invented. Just because they look cool, and are shiny, people buy them. They have no sensible reason for buying them. Anyone in their right mind, would never buy an electronic item, that is so small, that you have to strain your eyes to see it, and is so shiny, as well as smooth, that it slips from your hand, each time you pick it up. Gadgets were/are supposed to make our life easier. However, they are the exact opposite. They make awkward noises at the wrong time, make sure that we avoid all and any social contact, and waste a whole lot of money, and hours as we run around trying to get them fixed.

Mobile phones, for example, are supposedly the most tedious man made evil ever. Typical ones are packed with silly and awkward ring-tones, useless games, and not to forget, the ability to permit your mother or your wife, to call you up wherever you are, whenever. Most men, who have cellphones to their ears all the time, are mostly regarded as anti-social idiots - a good attempt at trying to look cool. Not to forget, that at the end of the day, they are the ones to get robbed.

The major menace that will cause the world to come to a painful halt, is portable video games. Anyone, can blame anything and everything on these plastic boxes with little colorful lights, from the increase in the crime rates, to the every rising inflation. Kids waste an awful lot of time, playing with these boring, and expensive, not to forget addictive, gadgets, and see nothing wrong in shooting and killing meaningless zombies and animals on the screen. Heck, they would not even think twice about shooting a person in real life if they had the chance to. These plastic boxes, have an amazingly strong persuasive power. Children no longer realize the boundary between virtual world, and reality. And personally, it won't be long before we seen little children jumping on ducks and lions, because that is what they've been doing in the latest Mario game.

One of the latest craze, among the modern society is that of Ipods. This love for Ipods seems to be one that will never end. These days, it is very rare to see a person walking down a street, without an Ipod in his hand, singing along with Chester's voice, which not only makes him look like a complete fool, but also makes us beat our heads, cursing ourselves, for being responsible for this 'rock an pop' headed generation. Back in the old days, I remember people walking and talking on the streets, or in public transport. What ever happened to those good old days?

I do admit the fact that gadgets are not totally bad, because I just can't imagine the troubles caused without necessities such as pocket calculators, and alarms that run away and hide, making sure that you're never late for work.
