The answer is no. However, there is nothing that can be seen but the pure hours of entertainment I've gotten from spending this money. It wasn't necessary for me to spend this money, however, it makes my game experience much more enjoyable, and is worth it to me in the long run.
Most people argue that it's not worth spending the money, for a few reasons.
No Need To
Most of the games where you spend money on items, weapons, appearance items, and a few other items are technically free. You can access the game services without paying more money. Most people believe it doesn't make sense to pay for these items because you don't really need to, it's not necessary.
However, what most people fail to realize, is that the people that play these games are interested in gaining levels fast, and getting the most out of their gaming experience. The most effective way to do this is to access the cash items. If you can do this, you're going to get where you want to be a lot faster, and with much more style, in most cases. Who cares what the price of something is, so long as it satisfies the person purchasing it?
Nothing To Hold
It's true that with the items you're purchasing on the game, you aren't able to physically hold them. Since you aren't purchasing anything which is an actual physical object, people will believe that you're being ripped off and what you're getting is nowhere near worth the price.
But who really cares if it's real or not? The items serve their purpose - To entertain you.
Expiration
Most of the items or services you access in a game are only available for a limited time after you pay for them. This is mainly to keep people interested, make more money, and make people want to buy more. Most people will argue; Why buy something that expires after three months?
Well, why pay a cell phone bill? It's not a service that lasts for forever or that you can hold. It's something that's fun, and you enjoy doing, which is exactly the same concept as that of paying money for video game access.
