Is 'Survivor' Going to Survive Another Season?

'Toncantins' Proves to Be a Snore-Fest

Candice Cain
Thursday nights were the best nights to watch television. If you weren't a fan of Must See TV on NBC, you would surely watch Survivor and the original CSI on CBS. With staple shows such as ER calling it quits, is it possible that Survivor is on its way off the air as well?

The latest season of Survivor, which takes place in Tocantins, Brazil, is a bit mundane, repeating many of the same story lines that we have seen in seasons past. Even some of the challenges, such as the weight-bearing challenge which Andrew won in Survivor: Pearl Islands, are the same. There are no standout players, except for Drill Sergeant Jerry Sims, who was voted out early on.

The fact that there are more Immunity idols in this season than any other season is more of a turn-off than an excitement builder. While no hidden immunity idols have yet been played, the anticipation of something big happening because of them just isn't there. Do people really care about the players this season? Is there a plot to follow?

Perhaps Survivor execs and casting directors need to take a closer look at the contestant pool if they want to continue on. Stay away from another Survivor All Stars, and focus on getting people with stronger personalities and, yes, even better looks. Think about the women from Survivor's past... Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Parvati Shallow, Jenna Morasca, Stephanie LaGrossa and others. Are there any contestants that can shine a candle to any of these ladies on this season? I should say not.

Survivor Tocantins has turned out to be a big, fat disappointment. Even host Jeff Probst appears bored and disappointed, making disparaging comments about the performance for contestants during challenges, and halfheartedly making attempts to "stir the pot" during tribal council. The Exile island factor has turned out to be a bit more mundane than anything else on the entire show.

Will Survivor make it through to another season, or will it's torch be extinguished? Hopefully, there will be a rally in the second half of this season to make way for the next.

Bobcheese- Just so you are aware, I by no means have refined taste when it comes to TV. It's just a disappointing season, in my humble opinion. The assignment was to write my review - MY OPINION - of a reality TV show. Survivor was the first that came to mind, since I am so disappointed by it.

Hey, I was following the assignment given to me-- a review of reality TV. Since Survivor is one of my favorite shows, I thought I would review it. I don't know what you meant referring to my "state of mind" regarding the show. I gave suggestions as a fan of the show on how I thought future seasons could be better.

Bob, please. I've also watched all seasons of Survivor. You are enjoying this one as much as Pearl Islands? As Exile Island? Africa? Wow. I guess some people just don't expect enough. Settling for mediocrity paves ways for more mediocre shows.

I have ALWAYS thought that there should be a Celebrity Survivor. They tried another show once in the same vein, but it was terrible.

There should be a Celebrity Survivor show (like Celebrity Apprentice). Howard Stern should be one of the castaways.

Well, Jeff Probst has already signed a contract for 2 more seasons.

I haven't been interested enough to follow Jeff's blog. I really hope it would pick up already!

I agree that this season is pretty boring so far, but Jeff Probst keeps insisting on his EW.com blog that this will be one of our favorite seasons....so, hopefully it'll get better?

    Dad? Is that you?
Jerry would have taken the spotlight once the tribe merged. Sure, he flew under radar, but he certainly shouldn't have been voted out so early on. And Candice was the one that stirred the pot all the time, even if she wasn't well-liked. Sierra? Tyson? Coach? Come on. Like they aren't types that we've seen on Survivor before.
