AL East:
1. Red Sox: Games Back:0
Well, I suggest to all Boston fans that you get ready for a long two months of looking over your shoulder to see where the Yankees are. But, I feel with their awesome rotation in Beckett, Dice-K, Wakefield, Gabbard, and Lester that they will not falter. Plus, Schilling is going to be back soon. Then you have the awesome bullpen led by Okajima and Papelbon although they could use one more shutdown pitcher to get the perfect bullpen. Therefore fans watch this trade deadline as Boston tries to acquire a 4th outfielder (Jermaine Dye) and another reliever (Octavio Dotel/Eric Gagne).
2. Yankees: Games Back: 8
So here there is good and there is bad.
The Good: They were 14 games back of the Red Sox at one point. Now they are only 8 games back in the East and 4 games back in the wildcard. The offense is led by a for once clutch A-Rod and his MVP season and they are rolling. The starters seem to finally be pitching well. Therefore they look like they should at least be able to catch the Indians for the wildcard.
The Bad: The Yankees are still 8 games back in the Al East to Boston who has a fearsome rotation and an offense that includes PAPI and Manny Ramirez. Plus, their bullpen after Mariano Rivera is in shambles although if they make a deal at the trade deadline they could fix that problem somewhat. They could also use another first basemen other than Miguel Cairo and Andy Phillips.
3. Blue Jays: Games Back: 11.5
I would like to say that they are still in contention except that they aren't. Their team is injured and who nows whether Troy Glaus will be on this team after the trade deadline. Roy Halladay is a walking timebomb and A.J. Burnett is already injured and on the D.L. Maybe they will make me eat my words but I doubt it. Sorry Toronto fans unless the Blue Jays get hot in the next month I think they are done.
4. Orioles: Games Back: 14.5
Here is my take, they are very similar to the Blue Jays. They have got to get hot, very hot, in the next month. Except, that their rotation is better with E. Bedard, D. Cabrera, B. Burres, J. Guthrie and an unknown starter. But, their offense isn't as good and their bullpen is weaker as well.
5. Devil Rays:Games Back: 24.5
Nothing to be happy here almost 25 games back. They can't get hot enough to keep their dreams alive. Other than you have to hope that Kazmir will lead this team next year. You have to like their four hitters though Carlos Pena, Akinori Iwamura, Carl Crawford, Delmon Young. Hope for next year.
