Is Temptation a Sin?

Amanda Kidd
When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone; we are tempted when our evil desires entice us, then after desire is conceived it births sin, and when sin is full grown, it births death. So, is temptation a sin? What is temptation? Temptation is persuasive or appealing thoughts of wrongful desires. Temptation is disputed among Christians often. While some believe temptation is a sin and others oppose this belief, what does the Bible relay? The Bible states, "No temptation has seized us except what's common to man. God is faithful and will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear and when we're tempted God will provide an escape." If God provides an escape to prevent us from sinning, then temptation itself is sinless.

If you are plotting to rob a bank and you receive a mysterious phone call stating you qualify for a loan, that is your way of escape, however if you execute the robbery that is sin. We all struggle with temptation, but temptation itself is harmless without action. You want those Krispy Kremes so bad you can taste them. Is this wrong? Yes, if your diets plan doesn't allow them. Is it sin, of course not. It may not be beneficial, but every wrong decision we make isn't necessarily sin. The dictionary defines temptation as a wrongful desire, but what if you're tempted to enroll in college, buy a new car, maybe elope, are we now to technical or grammatically incorrect when we flex the word temptation? When attempting to accomplish positive or productive goals is this inspiration or motivation oppose to temptation? Regardless of how you define temptation, God's commandments, decrees, and statues are best recognized as He intended. It is beneficial for your salvation. Pray that you will not fall into temptation because the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Jesus understands because He suffered when He was tempted. So call on Jesus and He will deliver you. (Scriptures paraphrased from the Holy Bible)
