If you wish to have a boy put your shoes/boots at the foot of the bed, for a girl at the head of your bed. The place you have to worry is those sports fish that eat other fish - the mercury in a single fish is really nothing, your body can process it out. But, if you eat shark, marlin, and other carnivorous fish the amount of mercury increases exponentially. You also want to avoid raw fish (sushi, even cooked sushi because it is prepared on the same surface as raw) and undercooked meat. Even if your body was okay with these things before pregnancy your body no longer has the capability of fighting off infections as efficiently as it did, so you need to avoid situations where you can get an infection or illness.

Finally, watch the shape of your womb, if you carry it high and it is oblong like a football from chest to naval you are having a girl. If it is low and round you are having a boy. More importantly is to feel the baby move within you. These are just superstitions, they may work or they may not but it is fun to believe that we have this kind of control over our fate when it comes to child bearing.
