You can also probably bet on the fact that your child will somehow find a way to start secretly dating. Their hope is that you will never find out. Of course you are probably thinking that you will never be able to find out. However there are definitely some signs that you can pick up on that will give you a definite clue as to whether or not your child is secretly dating someone. One thing is that they may suddenly begin to spend a lot of time on the phone in private. This is why some parents don't give their children or young teens cell phones. This way they can limit or control who they talk with. The home phone should be in a public place. Of course you don't want to hover over your child and try to listen in to everything that is being said over the phone. It is however less likely that they will be talking to some secret boyfriend as long as the telephone is in a public place. There are some signs that your child may have a secret boyfriend or girlfriend at school. You may begin to notice that they get home a little later from school, or maybe they don't go exactly where they say they are going, or who they say they are going with. Usually when a child is dating you will probably begin to see them making up lies. Some parents can usually tell when their children are lying.
Your main goal however as a parent should not be to suddenly catch your child in the act, but it should be, to sit down and talk with your child. If you take the time to help them understand why they can not date yet, and also let them know that you would like them to be open with them it may help. Many parents fail to communicate with their children which in turn cause a lot of children to suddenly rebel as they get older. Remember that children especially teens are more likely to respect you if things are explained to them properly.
