Is There a Cure for Stupid?

Pat Burroughs
I suppose most of my AC friends think I never read their articles. I do. But I seldom leave a comment for the following reason.

For a long time now, anytime I read anyone's AC article and try to comment, I find that in order to leave a comment, I have two choices. I can either go back and log in for the umpteenth time that day, then try to find my way back to the article, which is never easy, or I can go in as a guest, which is equally difficult.

Have you ever tried to go in as a guest and been required to decipher the sometimes unintelligible "words" in order for your comment to be posted? I have to think there's a camera on me as I struggle to figure them out and someone somewhere is having a good laugh at my expense. If I get the words wrong, everything I have typed in disappears in a flash, never to be seen again.

Lately the "words" don't come up until I've already made my comment, and then they pop up, but my comment is gone.

I know my time is no more valuable than anyone else's, but I do find it difficult to sit at the computer for any length of time, due to back problems. So, most of the time I read your articles and just move on without leaving a comment. Occasionally I will get logged back in and leave a message as myself, but usually if I comment I find it easier to play blind man's bluff and go in as a guest. Until today. Now even that's not working.

I asked AC for help on this problem in the past, way back before Yahoo days, and some nice lady made several suggestions to solve my problem, but apparently I'm just too stupid to understand her instructions. I do appreciate the efforts they made to clear this up for me, but I guess I'm just too technologically challenged to understand.

So I was wondering, if anyone out there is willing to admit to understanding stupid, can you please tell me how to log in and stay logged in? It would be much appreciated. I've consulted the help page, but failed to find what I need. Has anyone else had this problem and found a way to solve it? I'm embarrassed to keep harping on the good people at AC to deal with my ignorance, when they have thousands of other writers to help. Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

I run into AC issues all the time- sometimes I can log in,then the next page is "page not displayed" and I have to go back and do it all over. Sigh- I agree with you- somebody out there is just laughing at our expense with all the little glitches :) I feel your pain

I always tell myself that I hope stupid hurts... than, I'm sorely tempted to ask that annoying person... are you in pain?

I have enjoyed your article as much as anyone possibly could because you have expressed my same frustration so well! I am very new to AC, and thought I was just doing something wrong. To comment now, I did go back and log in again, and managed to find your article again. Next time I will try the suggestions other people have given. Thanks! You have brightened my morning!

Hope you are able to get it all worked out, sorry you have been having problems!

If the pros cannot figure it out, then we are not stupid! Being told we are crazy isn't much help either. Now they have recognized there is a problem. Someone smart will have to fix it. Meanwhile, I will PM you a couple of things that helped me.

Ditto. having the same problem, and AC knows. Thanks for your great comment on my Sanctity of Life article, Pat! It really gave a great deal of credibility to my take on the issue of "choice" in this and several past pieces.
