The World Now, Seems To Have No Choice
It has been decreed by the latest findings from the committees of the top environmental, meteorological, geological and many other expert minds on the planet that the earth has been in a warming trend for the past few decades. The final consensus is that we must act immediately to stop the present trend of increased warming of the earth's atmosphere, or face some dire consequences. Some suggestions are obvious, stop the sources of our release of carbon dioxide and other pollutants into the atmosphere. Sounds simple enough, except that if we did abruptly do this, it is fairly obvious that virtually all economies of the world would quickly come to a screeching halt. Obviously, this is not the most preferred and immediate solution. Another suggestion is the complete transformation from the present gasoline combustion engine to the "all electric car". For those with that thought in mind, we must keep in mind that the production of the "ideal battery" would require polluting energy sources and until our renewable energy sources totally replace our present sources of energy use, the air pollution problems would not go away.
One Possible Solution: Change Our Ways
First of all, what we have now is analogous to getting a regular, though very minimal and even unnoticeable reaction to an injection of some deadly substance, that we know will eventually cause our demise, but because it does not noticeably affect us at this very moment, we are not forced to address the problem. Eventually, after many almost daily injections of this diluted "poison"over an extended period of time, our system will not respond to any possible anecdote and all bets are off. Just trying to draw a loose analogy to our world's present situation, though probably not the best, it may begin to awaken us to the reality of it. It has been suggested by some great minds of the present and recent past that if each and every one of us on the earth lessened by some most minute amount, the need for the use of energy, our world would be less polluted. We must remember that if each and every one of us contributed to this effort, it would be multiplied by more than six billion and this is the way to look at it. The final criteria, adjust our "values" in life. Adjusting our daily habits, like possibly even walking a mile instead of simply getting into the automobile and driving. If we multiplied this by the six billion figure, it certainly turns out to be substantial...as far as energy conservation and of course saving the added pollution to our eco system.
Will All Our Future Efforts Be Enough ?
A decision by all governments of the world will certainly be made soon and we are told this should come in June of this year(2007). The decisions made for release at that time may not be pleasant to some of us, since it may limit , or at least for now, suggest that we limit the use of basic "energy" consumption, such as using CFL lamps in our homes and apartments instead of the standard incandescent lamps, which consumes slightly more than 4 times more energy for the same amount of light output. With the new LED technology beginning to replace some of the less efficient lamps, we are told they will save us more than 8 times the amount of energy of the standard incandescent lamp. Of course, with the present world government's efforts to use renewable energy on a large scale and ridding ourselves of the present predominantly polluting fossil based fuels, it could in the foreseeable future begin to reverse the world trend of "Global Warming".

Post a CommentWith all of the earhquakes and floods and other natural disasters of recent I think something far greater than what we human beings can control is happening. I believe we have physical (lifestyle) mental (intellecttual)and spiritual responsibilities to ourselves and to the earth. Unfortunately, the spiritual aspect gets left out of our equations which causes many of our problems that the greatest minds in the world cannot solve.
I am sure we can reverse some of the problms we have caused. But, it will not be simple and it will take time in addition to an effort on everyones part.
