The problem with this is the player's make too much. Not to mention the players who had nothing growing up that make this kind of money screw it all up by doing stupid things (examples: Ricky Williams, Jason Williams, Michael Vick). I'm not even talking about that. All this money these players get could be used to benefit plenty of other things in this country such as hunger, poverty, fixing communities, improving public transportation, curing diseases, bettering schools, and im such there are more I left out.
We live in a society where no one wants to become doctors anymore to save lives because 150,000 a year is nothing nowadays. Ask any 11 year old what they want to be when they grow up. And most likely they would want to be an athlete or some sort of entertainer. Lets stick with the athletes. My main purpose for rambling about this is to give an idea which will never be used because it is probably too late.
Instead of giving players millions of dollars to play sports lets do this. Every player in every sport starts out with 100,000 dollars a year. Reasonable given they have talents some don't. And each year you are evaluated. If your stats are increased you go up in ratings from 1 to 10. 1 being 100,000 and 10 being 1 million dollars. If your skills increase you go up a notch and if you don't you stay the same. So you could possibly make 200,000 dollars next year depending on your performance. Now if you do below your status your pay decreases also. What this does is guarantee that a play will give his all in a season. Play his hardest to earn the most he can make. In turn, this will make games more intense and more pleasurable. Because, is it me, or when you watch a basketball game do you feel like you see 10 millionaires running on a court not caring about how poorly they play. I know I am. In edition to the rating system, the farther a team gets into the season the more of a bonus the team gets which they will split evenly between the players and coaches. Also bonus for awards will be given.
Imagine the excitement on your kids face watching these athletes competing like every game means something. Remember those days? Well like I said this would probably never happen but just imagine for one day it did.
