Linda M. McCloud

Are you considering getting a facelift? Are you tired of your sagging skin? Are you tired of the deep lines around your mouth or eyes? Are you tired of the jowl look on your neck? Do you think a facelift is the answer to your beauty problems?

The good news is that getting a facelift or a rhytidectomy isn't such a difficult task anymore. This field of cosmetic surgery has come a long way in the last few years. There are many different types of facelift procedures that can performed today and many more people are considered good candidates for them.

Who are good candidates for facelifts?

A good candidate for getting a facelift is a person who: still has some elasticity left in their skin, are generally between the ages of 40 and 70, are in good general health, are in good mental health, and is a person who understands that the procedure may make them look better but will not solve their problems in life.

What types of facelifts are there?

The Weekend Facelift

The weekend facelift is not a full facelift. This procedure is a partial facelift that will help improve some of the sagging and droopiness of the skin. This is considered minor surgery.

The Full Facelift

This type of facelift is considered major surgery. There may be some down time with this surgery. You should also expect a bit of swelling.

Preparing For a Facelift

If you decide to go ahead and get a facelift, you should prepare for it as you would any surgery. The day of the surgery, wear comfortable clothes. Make sure you wear a shirt that has buttons instead of shirt that you will have to pull over your head and face. You should also prepare to have someone drive you to and from the doctor's office or hospital. You should also try to have someone stay with you after you come home for the first 48 hours.

Make sure that you and the person who will be staying with you understands your doctors after care instructions, including what medications you can take and how often.

You should also make sure you have some supplies on hand, including:

  • Ice
  • Gauze
  • Clean towels and washcloths
  • Frozen bags or bags of vegetables
  • Thermometer
  • Comfortable shirts that opens in the front

Is a facelift the answer to your beauty problems? Only you and your doctor can answer that your question.
