Is Today's Celebrity-Obsessed Culture Really Good For Business?

Is it Unfair for Real Talent?

Is today's star-crazy culture making it harder for average people to start a business? With J-Lo and Gwen Stefani making money in fashion as well as rock 'n' roll, it looks harder and harder for undiscovered talent to make a name in fashion.

Personally, I'd like it more if we heard about stars less. I am so sick of J-lo, you would be too if you kept getting called that. And I'd rather see some real fashion out there rather than a pop stars version of clothing. It is hard enough to start a business, let alone compete with a household name who goes after your business.

Main Street is hurting. With high gas prices and inflation at 4%, it is harder to get at people's money. But if that isn't enough, you have a snowballs chance in you know where to make it in fashion unless you happen to be Jessica Simpson or Britney Speares.

Now I don't think we have to worry about Britney opening an accounting firm any time soon, but with celebrities putting their face on everything, it would be nice to see some truly creative clothes and other products.

It seems like the days where Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger are in decline and instead of getting a fashion statement, you get a sense of importance because you own Glow perfume by J-lo.

It seems to me we need something to get excited about other than crocks. Goodness they're ugly. But everything new is really a rehash of older styles and its just a matter of time before Gwen Stefani does house wares. I'm saving money for when I can buy a J-lo sofa bed with a pull out Ben Affleck doll.

Maybe its just me, but over exposure leads to apathy and disinterest. Its amazing that there is a show called TMZ where they stalk celebrities. Aren't they getting enough exposure in advertising? They wanted me to be a model in high school and then I got sick and couldn't. But I'm also pretty smart and if it wasn't for crazy framers grabbing at me, I would work in the art field.

But I can't help it if my true love is writing and drawing, not being a performer. Never really cared much for that. So, I'll probably never make it because now days you need to be a media mogul like Oprah to make it. But that doesn't make me bitter. Oh, by the way, my names pronounced Jayla, not J-lo.
