Is it Tuesday Already? (If it Is, Time for Haiku, Right?)

I will walk with you
I will listen, and answer too
I will not plead the Fifth
O God how many, at the very first
inkling of controversy
blow colder than an enemy ...
Corporations have taught well
To preach freedom, never act freely
Or never think freely, independently
Only follow the flock, ask "How High?"
When the puppet-masters say "Jump boy!"

I will keep my thoughts quiet
I will answer if you say "It's alright"
If you need two ears and a single mouth
I am learning how to supply both
For it is perhaps a little friendship
That saves ... Jesus was unpopular
With Jews, Romans, gentiles in power
Peter even denied Him thrice; He looked
At his friend Peter, toward His death that shook
Many of His former anemies and detractors
Just as He rebuilt sinew, tongue and powers
Of men like Peter, to go forth with Passion
And bear their crosses in the Great Commission

Maybe Pocohontas was John Smith's little friend
That saved Jamestown from Roanoke's end
Maybe Sacagewea was a Frenchman's dark wife
And these friendships transformed dying into life
For a new nation, and new creatures too
After all, we need a spark - most any will do -
To look higher, go on keeping on
Be it with wordsmithery, in Faith recalling a setting sun
Or the Son who rose on Day Three, and rises still
Whenever we are bowed down by cross, cold, popular will
That speaks of freedom and friendship but often
Run to exits, when a fellow human is down
Run to the Cross, I try to do, to Jesus who loved
Me before Creation; And to His Church He's ev'r bethrothed.
