Is Your Unique Selling Proposition Going to Catapult You into Internet Marketing Gold

The idea behind a unique selling proposition was created many years ago. It is one of the strongest marketing tactics used today and one that many people know and understand, but have no idea they are coming in contact with it every day. Have you ever heard the M&M saying, "Melt in your mouth, not in your hand"? That is a unique selling proposition. With that simple statement, M&Ms differentiate themselves from the rest of the chocolate market. They may not have the best chocolate, but they have a catch phrase that keeps people coming back for more.

Internet Marketing With a Unique Selling Proposition

Brainstorming is at the heart of every unique selling proposition. Multi million dollar companies have people sitting in rooms, thinking up the next big catch phrase, but the typical Internet marketer does not have the advertising budget to hire a marketing staff, let alone wait months or years for the right phrase to be developed.

On the flip side, once the unique selling proposition is in place, that catch phrase will be used on all sorts of marketing including article marketing, print marketing, website marketing and more. There is a lot of pressure to create just the right grouping of words to set apart your business, but an easy method of creating a unique selling proposition is available.

Set Out Those Note Cards

While sitting at a table, spread out some note cards all around you and start describing your business, product, or service on each one. The idea is to jot down notes about why customers should choose your product over the millions of others on the market. Businesses are often started by people with a strong desire, education, and vested interest in a product. These are all things the potential customer will not have - so the unique selling proposition needs to pass along that passion in a short space.

Once the note cards are full, look over them and pick out the most important business aspect to focus on. The one you choose needs to create a need. If a potential customer feels they need your product or service, they will be more apt to open the wallet and increase your sales and profit. With one key business aspect in mind - it is now time to formulate the final unique selling proposition.

Words Consumers Love to Here

Consumers are fickle creatures that love to hear certain promises from businesses. Words like Now, New, Exciting, and Today are all effective in converting customers. It is not necessary to use all of the words, just one or two.

You have the business aspect and the keywords to include in your unique selling proposition so now you need to get creative. Remember to use few words, remind the customer what you or your business is providing them that other businesses are not and capture their minds with a catchy keyword.

Populating the Internet With Your USP

The unique selling proposition, or USP can now be used in Internet marketing. The idea is to use these few words as a branding tool that customers will remember. Every time they read the USP, they need to think of your company. Publish the USP on social networks, bookmarking websites, in forum signatures, and on an official website. Print the USP on business cards and include it when you purchase print marketing. Soon, customers will associated the USP to your business and the quality you provide.
