Is Verizon's Droid Phone a Threat to IPhone?

At the end of October, Verizon will release the Droid, their challenge to the iPhone. If you saw the commercial which aired during the Yankee game on Saturday, you know Verizon is firing with both barrels at Apple's iPhone. The commercial starts by listing all the functions that iPhone doesn't have and ends with Droid does. The list of functions and applications is quite extensive and impressive; a real keyboard, simultaneous applications, widgets, high pixel camera that can take photos in the dark, and most impressive-the phone is customizable.

iPhone has none of these functions, so will Verizon's Motorola Droid kill iPhone? No Way. Many people feel that iPhone is a well built and reliable product which has everything they need or want to play with. Does anyone really want to open multiple apps at once? It sounds more like something you would do on a PC, not a phone. Widgets too are superfluous. Customers who want to have a mini PC would do better with a mini laptop or a notebook. The Droid sounds like you may have to actually read the instruction book to use it whereas an iPhone is made so user friendly that almost anyone can pick one up and get going.

Another important factor in the upcoming phone war it that Apple is a trusted brand for creating excellent user friendly products that people love and Motorola does not share this admiration from the public. Apple gave us the Ipod, iTouch and iPhone, all wildly popular. They know what the public wants and they produce it. Verizon and Motorola are merely copying the iPhone and adding their own slant on it in hopes of attracting customers away from Apple. Verizon doesn't have a finger on the pulse of the buyers, which is clearly shown by the Droids function overkill.
