Is Vince Young Still in Tennessee Titan's Future?

Vonda Menard
Vince Young, the former University of Texas QB, lead his team to a thrilling victory over the mighty USC Trojans, in the 2005 Rose Bowl. Young, the athletic quarterback with the ability of a running back, was a joy to watch. The college Vince Young seemed like he was having fun when he was on the field, he even talked about his joking nature, "It's pretty much my calling," he explained. "You accept [that calling], or you get smacked in the face by the Man Upstairs."

After besting USC and Matt Leinhart in the Rose Bowl, Vince Young would once again finish ahead of Leinhart. In the 2006 Draft, Young was the first quarterback selected, going to the Tennessee Titans with the third pick. His rookie year, Young would show some flashes of his great running ability. Young would finish his rookie season, with 552 yards rushing, with 7 rushing touchdowns.

Vince Young started the 2007 season, as the Titans starting QB. Young would start 15 games that year, only missing one, due to injury. His stats for the season, were 62.3% completion percentage, 9 touchdowns and 17
interceptions. After a 2007 season in which his team made the playoffs, Young and Tennessee were thinking big things for 2008, unfortunately for Young, 2008 would be disastrous.

Vince Young's problems in 2008 were well documented. Young was booed in the season opener after throwing an interception and when it was time to go back in the game, Young initially refused and finally, after Coach Fisher spoke to him, Young returned to the field. Young was struggling and didn't know how to handle it. Young would later get hurt in the same game, then subsequently lose his starting job, to Kerry Collins.

The Titans drafted Young with hopes that he would be their franchise quarterback. Now entering his fourth season, Young has been both a starter and a backup. This year, Young begins the season on the bench, backing up Collins. The Titans currently have only two quarterbacks on their roster, Vince Young and Kerry Collins. The Titans will look to add another QB for the season, and maybe for the future.

Last year Vince Young lost his calling and he'll have to find it again if he wants to regain the trust of the Titans organization. If Young fails, the Titans will once again be looking for their franchise quarterback. Tennessee may not draft a quarterback in this years draft, but the 2010 draft looks loaded with quarterbacks and if Young can't convince the Titans he's their man, Tennessee will be looking to the future in 2010.

"Young is under contract. He is not going anywhere. He is our quarterback of the future."

The future is here....Vince Young should start against Indy!
