Is Windows 7 Going to Beat Vista?

Better Features, Cheaper and Less of a Footprint

For the first time in many years, I am actually looking forward to the newest incarnation of Microsoft Windows, called simply Windows Seven.

All of the information I have been seeing about Windows Seven is encouraging. When Vista first came out I saw review after review that said Vista was the worst Operating System Microsoft had ever come out with.

Then I bought a couple of new computers, that had Vista installed on them. We used them and had no problems. I finally found another review that explained that the people who were knocking Vista had installed their test versions on systems that were built to run Windows XP. They simply did not have the resources to run the OS.

Microsoft learned from that mistake, and took it to heart when they engineered Windows Seven. The system requirements to run Windows Seven are less than Vista needed. All you have to have is a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16GB of hard drive space. That is about it. Additionally the pricing structure is much less than what Vista sold for. The prices for the various Windows Seven version are comparable to XP.

Windows Seven has a much smaller foot print than Vista did. This is the first time I can remember that the newer version of a Windows OS has less minimum system requirements than the previous version, and I have been a Windows user since Windows 3.11.

So what are the new features in Windows Seven? First of all they have a feature called Snap. Previously when you wanted to compare two windows you had to open them, and drag the contents around to resize them. With Snap you just drag and drop and they will snap to perfect comparison size.

The taskbar in Windows Seven is greatly improved, and offers you full screen previews, rather than the small thumbnail previews of Vista. TO me this is going to be a lot more convenient.

There are many more options to personalize your desktop and environment in Windows Seven. You have many choices for backgrounds, themes, sounds and so on.

The search function in Windows Seven is greatly improved over previous versions. All you need to do is type a key phrase, or part of the name, or even the date and if it is on your computer, Windows Seven sill find it, and offer you a list of possible files.

Windows Seven comes with Internet Explorer 8. I have already downloaded this, and to be honest I am not completely happy with the way it works. I have found IE 8 to be slow and clunky. The features it has are nice, but it bogs my system down. I can only hope that the version that ships with Windows Seven is better than what I was able to download.

Windows Seven has Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate. These are the three versions you can get. This is a lot less confusing than Vista.

For the most part, however, the features in Windows Seven make me want to pre-order a copy. Go to Microsoft.com and take a look for yourself.
