Is the World Coming to an End?

John Baxter
As the end of the world approaches, we gather around and share our last hugs and kisses. The coming of the world's end is a short look ahead. Is Apocalypse approaching?

People have talked about the end of the world as long as there have been people. The most recent and most popular predictions were; the atomic bomb era of the cold war, year 2000 when all the planets were supposed to be in alignment, and 06/06/2006.

There have been over fifty documented predictions of the end of the world since 53 AD. As a matter of fact, since, 1988 there have been about 32 predictions of the world's end. The next prediction of the end of the world is in 2012 because the Aztec and Mayan calendars end on December 21 of that year. This prediction has been made popular by the news, probably because of the current wars in the world, the outbreak of the swine origin influenza, and the state of the world economy. It is also said that Nostradamus predicted the world's end during 2012. People are more concerned as a result.

What is Supposed to Happen in 2012

On the winter solstice 2012, the sun is rises within the dark rift in the center of the Milky Way. Scientists have recently discovered that there is a black hole in the center of our galaxy. They also concur that the sun will be in exact alignment with the earth and the center of the Milky Way. This is said to only happen once in every 25,800 years. It is unsure what effect this will have on the earth. The Mayans say that it will be devastating. Geophysicists have a theory called pole shift. This theory says that the entire mantle of the earth would shift in a matter of days making the North Pole shift to the South Pole, causing devastating events. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, and hurricanes would emerge. There is evidence that the poles have shifted before.

It is said that in the coming years we will see dramatic increases in; drought, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, global warming, famine, human suffering, disease, disregard for human life, wars, rumors of war, increased terror threats, and increased nuclear threats. Further evidence that the world will end in 2012 is Nostradamus supposedly speaks of a devastating asteroid and Albert Einstein made predictions of a polar shift.

Should You Be Afraid?

The truth is, the end of the world has been predicted many times since the beginning of time. It has not ended yet. Remember the hype of the year 2000? In my opinion, there will one day be an end of the world if we do not work to improve our environment. Pollution has to stop. We can no longer cut all the trees we want. We can no longer drive our "gas hogs." We can no longer let out greenhouse gasses. People have to work together, or there will be an end of the world. Save the planet. It's our house. Take care of it. Most importantly, enjoy the time you have left on the world. Do not always be in fear. When we are in fear, we are more easily controlled, and more easily able to believe anything. Enjoy life, and protect the planet.

Sir Isaac Newton, Britain's greatest scientist, spent 50 years and wrote 4,500 pages trying to predict when the end of the world was coming. The most definitive date he set for the apocalypse, which he scribbled on a scrap of paper, was 2060.
