Isabel Marant - The Beginning
Isabel Marant started her design label in 1989. It started out with nothing more than accessories and jewelry. As her popularity in Paris grew she expanded her product line into designer clothing in 1994. These clothing designs embodied the essence of French femininity. They were soft, free floating and elegant yet casual and comfortable at the same time. Today Isabel Marant has two main fashion lines, Isabel Marant is her signature collection and Etoile is her secondary and more affordable line.
The Isabel Marant Aesthetic
The clothing designed by Isabel Marant is beautiful. Her designs utilize a retro bohemian essence that is still very modern and fashion forward. The colors offered by Isabel Marant clothing are more muted than what most Americans are used to, but they add sophistication and elegance to the clothing. Each season she provides an interpretation of the same basic pieces including a soft and loosely fitted dress, canvas boots, slouchy pants, bohemianesque shirts and skirts and masculine looking jackets. Finally, each collection is accented with accessories and jewelry designed by Isabel Marant.
Buying Isabel Marant
The best place to find clothing designed by Isabel Marant is Paris. Her clothing is carried by many Parisian boutiques. However, if you are not lucky enough to be planning a shopping trip to Paris then there is a handful of boutiques in the United States that carry both her signature collection and her Etoile collection. Two boutiques in the United States that carry her clothing lines are Heist and Bird.
Wearing Isabel Marant
The styles created by Isabel Marant are flattering for a wide array of figures. To wear her clothing properly you will want to select pieces that embody masculine and feminine traits. For example, if you are wearing a soft and loose fitting feminine dress from the Etoile collection then you will want to pair it with a pair of more masculine weathered canvas boots. Scarves are also a key component of a complete Isabel Marant outfit. Scarves are used to add softness, color and visual interest to the outfit. They are also a part of the "Parisian chic" look that is quid essential of this collection.
