Isiah Thomas Out as Knicks Head Coach

Isiah Thomas had to go.

Simple as that, no questions asked.

Whether or not you are a believer that the New York Knicks can win with their current roster, the bottom line is that Thomas is associated with losing in New York. That, quite simply, is more than enough to run him out of town.

It's not like Thomas didn't try along the way. When he arrived with the Knicks on December 22, 2003, he immediately tried to turn around the losing culture. Gone was head coach Don Cheney, in was Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkins. Gone were Howard Eisley, Antonio McDyess, and Charlie Ward - in were Stephon Marbury and Penny Hardaway. Even with a proven coach and players, they were swept out of the first round of that year's playoffs by the New Jersey Nets.

Who would have thought that would be the last time the Knicks would even be in the postseason?

Look, it's not like Thomas is the sole reason the Knicks have lost. A roster of Eddy Curry, Zach Randolph, Jamal Crawford, and Marbury should be expected to win. But, they turned losing into the norm. How many times did you turn on a Knicks game and say to yourself, "Wow, these guys are really playing their butts off!"? I didn't think so either.

When players who have had success in the NBA all of a sudden look like they can care less about their jobs, that's when the coaching should be criticized. In the Eastern Conference, a team 8 games under .500 made the playoffs. The Knicks were 14 games worse than that. For that reason, Thomas absolutely should be blamed. For whatever reason, he never could get his group to play hard and as a team for 48 minutes a night.

Where do the Knicks go from here? For one, roster changes obviously need to be made. From all of the Knicks games I have seen, the only players that seem to show any sort of heart are David Lee, Nate Robinson, and Renaldo Balkman. Crawford for the most part does, but he's too busy trying to lead the league in scoring while his team is getting killed every night. Take the 3 names I just mentioned and add in young, athletic, hard-nosed players like them. Especially in the East, winning could come sooner than you think.

For Thomas, it's time to move away from the Knicks altogether. Take a year off, get back into broadcasting, anything. Absolutely do not take another job inside the Knicks organization.

The Knicks want to rid themselves of you, it's time for you to rid themselves of them.
