Islamic Division; The Danger of Radical Islam; Part 1

Susan Elliott
Division has plagued all world religions and Islam is no exception. While most religions preach peace and love, the basic tenants of Islam are hostile and violent. However, there are several groups or sects of Muslims. They can be divided into three basic groups modern liberals, traditionalists and radicals. The purpose of this article is to enlighten the reader to the differences between these sects of Muslims, and inform the reader why both traditional Islamists and radical Islamists are a danger to the free world, Christian and otherwise.

There are some people who follow the teachings of Muhammad who have a more liberal world view. These followers are more peaceable and tolerant of other people, nations and religions around them. Modern liberal followers of Islam are not those who declare Jihad on every person who doesn't believe in the tenants of Islam. They are Muslims that try to follow the teachings of Muhammad in a way that conforms to modern society. These particular followers are the ones that the media often says are a true representation of the Muslim world. The media tries to persuade the public to believe that this liberal view is the normal, most common Islamic world view. Unfortunately, it is not.

Traditional Muslims follow the tenants of Islam without question, but also desire to be a part of the modern world. Traditionalists walk a fine line between radical Islam and modern liberal Islam Traditional Muslims the people who know and recognize what fundamental Islam teaches. This recognition allows the traditional Muslim to understand that radical Islamists follow Islam in the way that it was truly intended to be followed. While many traditional Muslims do not practice in Jihad or actively condone homicide bombing, they believe if Allah "wills" those things to occur, they should happen. These Islamists are much more passive than the radical followers of Islam. However, it is crucial to note that they do not disagree with radical Islamists!

Radical followers of Islam follow the teachings of Muhammad literally. They believe that they are fighting a holy war, much like the war of the crusades. The Qur'an gives specific insights about those who do not follow Islam.

Qur'an; Surah 9.30 "And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away."
