During a recent community project at Salam Islamic center I had the privilege of reading the Muslim Heritage 1001 Inventions Book. This book is complete with excellent full color illustrations, documenting historical discoveries and inventions during the Islamic Golden Age. During our setup and coordination of a local science exhibit, we made great use of this book during our research.

I myself took on this book in order to seek out inspiration for the physical elements and content for my areas of the science exhibition. Once my children saw me with the book, they wanted to assist with the project, and wondered why I was holding out. I thought that it may be a bit much for them, but they proved me to be wrong. Its colorful illustrations really drew them in, and inspired them to work on their own science inventions. Complete with time lines, biographies, illustrations and more, this book is a great resource that can lead a students desire to seek out and learn more on their own.

At a time when the rest of the world was in its dark ages, the Muslims were in its Golden Age.The House of Wisdom was so much more than a library, but a center of knowledge that came from Baghdad. The translation of documents, a place of gatherings, and continuous education. Photographs of the first university built by Fatimah and the history of how it came to be are all documented in this book. Hundreds of pages from where coffee originated to how far the camera obscurer has come, the travels of Ibn Battuta, and the fine silks of China, so much can be found in this book that it will amaze even a science scholar with the amount of knowledge presented so creatively.
