Island Summer

(not All is Gloom...)

Brendan W Vittum
Island Summer
(not All is gloom...)

Pleasant
day on The Rock;
birds dancing
under foot and in bush,
'coons ramble
in the hedges - too far
to shoot - Doe
and Yearling strolling

up

the drive - another look, two
Peacocks, husband and wife,
stroll down - later spotted
Mother and Child dinning
on neighbor's roses - shot
but Shaky shook
too much to use.

Amid it all the lazy play
of sunlight through limb
and dust.

Tonight?

Tonight the Heron
cough quietly
of the day - somewhere distant
Old Man Hoot Owl
warms up the Night chorus.

No Cricket,
nor Lighting Bug
dwell here - integral
to summer as the Cicada
to one Eastern Boy's mind -
but today? Tonight? He recalls
why the Western Shore
is desirable.

That is beautiful...and if I am the aunt it is for I feel incredibly honored! If I am not....well I will just choose to believe I am!! Love you, sorry I have not been over to see you but I hope you know you are always in my heart and thoughts. xo
