Now, the ATP needs to realize that Isner isn't just freak show, but rather a force to be reckoned with.
He only needed three sets to beat second round opponent Rik de Vost 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 becoming the first player to punch his ticket to the third round of the Open.
Isner's serve is nearly unreturnable, and each time I watch him other aspects of his game get better and better. His touch around the net is very good, especially on low balls, which seems improbable given his height.
There have been other players on tour that have had success at his size. Ivo Karlovic is 6' 10" and is ranked in the top 30. Karlovic also has a great serve, but Isner looks to be the more athletic, more well rounded player.
Maybe that is a testament to Isner playing in college for four years getting drilled consistently on the fundamentals.
After Isner's win he should meet up with Roger Federer on national t.v. on Saturday.
John McEnroe even seemed to think Federer might have trouble with the match. Personally, I really don't think that Federer is too worried at this point.
Regardless of Isner's chances against Federer, people are getting excited about Isner's future (his agent probably included).
It will be a long time before we see if Isner can deliver on the promise he has shown. At least for now Isner has given many American tennis fans hope for a bright future.
