"Hey, what the hell!" I scream. The boy jumps and spins around with eyes wide open. He looks at me only for a second and then he turns and bolts towards the window beside the cupboards. Where he entered no doubt. He jumps through the window and starts running. I quickly take make chase. I run past my cans, knocking over one of the larger stacks with my arm. I probably bruised my tricep but I am more interested in catching this boy before he gets away. Who does he think he is, stealing my food? The boy runs fast kicking up dust. I pursue him around the side of my house. He runs looking back every so often. His eyes widen as he notices I'm still behind him. Who is this thief? I run faster, I have to catch this boy. I can't let him get away, not when I believed I was the only one left. Maybe if he's here that means there are other people still alive. I run faster now with more conviction. I can feel the sun beating down on me. The sweat running down my face. Faster and faster, closer and closer. Almost in reach now. I lunge forward with all my strength. I Wrap my arms around his legs and we hit the ground with a crash. My arms scrape along the dirt. It stings so bad.
"Are you crazy?" I hear from above me. I look up to his face and he's looking at me with wide eyes and a furrowed brow. I scrape my feet along the dirt and claw my way up the boys body until I'm on top of his chest. I grip his dirty t-shirt in balls on either of his shoulders. "Shut up! Why were you stealing my food? Who are you? Where did you come from?" My face takes on an angry glare. I stare deep into his hazel eyes. They are the same colour as the dust around us, almost more of a tan or beige. I've never seen eyes so beautiful, They pull me in. My face begins to soften I can feel him breathing underneath me. My grip on him loosens. He must have seen a moment of weakness. He flips me off him, I land hard on my back. He gets up quickly and starts running again. I stay laying on my back. Now feeling the pain in my arms from the scrapes and bruise from the cans. My feet start to ache again from my long walk yesterday, and now the only person I've seen in almost two years is leaving and I probably won't ever see him or anyone again. I sit up and hunch over holding my arms and I start to cry. The tears run down my cheeks and drip to the dust. I start sobbing uncontrollably.
I sit crying for a minute or so until "Hey..hey please don't cry". I open my eyes and look up into the face of the boy. His dark hair caked to his forehead in sweat. I sniffle and rub my eyes. "What do you care if I cry?" I ask. "Well I don't have to care, I can leave if you want" "Whatever.." I say under my breath. "Fine!" the boy replies and he turns to walk away. "Hey! Wait!.." I yell, he stops, "Don't be a jerk and leave a crying girl all alone" He turns and walks back. He reaches my side and I look down. He kneels down and drops his bag on the ground. He falls back onto his butt. A puff of dust blows away. I sit still sniffling and staring at the ground. "So um.. Oh wow, you really hurt your arms" he says. I look back at my arms with surprise. I didn't notice the blood running down them from the scratches. "Shit" I say. "We should probably try to clean that up, is there water at your place?" he asks. "Yeah I have a bit, but not if you're going to steal it". He smiles a little half smirk and my heart almost skips a beat. This is unbelievable, the first person I see in so long, and he just happens to be cute. He stands up and brushes the dust from his pants. He leans over and reaches out his hand. "Here, I'll help you up" I look at his hand for a second and then slowly place my hand in his palm. I push myself up off the ground with my other hand. He pulls me with his dry hand. Once up I get dizzy. "Woah" I say and stumble a bit. He catches me. "Hey, careful now" he says. He puts his hand on my arm. "I'm fine!" I say still stubborn as ever, I can't let him think I'm too fragile. I don't know if I can trust him. We turn and start to head back to my house.
