Israel or Hamas: Will the Real Villain Please Stand Up?

Marty K.
There has been much outcry against Israel in the conflict against Hamas, and many people don't appear to understand who's really right or wrong, or who the culprit actually is. Others believe both sides are wrong (possibly from not being able to figure it out), but this is also false.

There are a lot of liberals who have continuously called the President George Bush a "terrorist," because of the action he took in Iraq based on intelligence reports and also beliefs that were shared by prominent Democrats. Although I don't approve of the way Iraq was handled, I don't consider the President of the United to be an evil entity, and I consider Saddam Hussein much closer to that definition regardless of all other factors.

We also hear protests and accusation against those in favor of life, as though they were the villains in the abortion controversy. Imagine refusing to err on the side of life, and calling those people "evil!"

Taking a closer look at Israel, we must ask ourselves: "Why are they conducting the massive campaign in Gaza?" The same people falsely accusing the President of the United States are outraged that Israel should protect its country from missiles being fired at them continuously. You hear the exact same criticism toward them as you as was being directed toward President Bush.

If you compare this to the abortion debate, you will see that every argument against the pro-life people stems from what I maintain is a false belief: That life does not begin at conception, and that "choice" should exist prior to the time they believe life begins, which is usually either at birth or some point having to do with so-called "viability."

In the sales industry, salespeople must often search deep to find out what real objection a prospective client has, that lies beneath an objection given. For example, a person might state the price is too high, but there may also be a credibility concern that is masqueraded by the price objection.

The people who condemn and curse Israel (the scriptures indicate they'll bring a curse upon them by doing so) usually have an underlying objection or an underlying belief, similar to both of the analogies mentioned above.

In the case of Israel, the underlying belief is almost always: "Israel has 'stolen the land' from the so-called 'Palestinians.'" Therefore, people not only believe Israel doesn't have a right to defend the land, but they want the terror group Hamas to overcome Israel, whom they consider the villains. It's a misguided belief system, manifested by those who are uneducated pertaining to the matter, and shallow beyond belief, with all due respect.

Therefore, the right of Israel to exist (the underlying concern) must be addressed, even though there are those who have now become anti-Semitic, and would rather kill the Jews than consider they could be wrong.

The best arguments I've seen concerning Israel's right to exist were given by Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe, in a speech given to the Senate in 2002. Inhofe stood against the opinion of the world and gave seven significant reasons why Israel alone is entitled to possess the land. The following appears on the webpage, http://www.geocities.com/christian_crusade/inhofe.html . It is titled, "American and Israel in Bible Prophecy," and it lists Inhofe's reasons as follows (condensed):

1. Archaeological Evidence: Every time there is a dig in Israel, it does nothing but support the fact that Israelis have had a presence there for 3,000 years.

2. Historic Right: Every time there is a dig in Israel, it does nothing but support the fact that Israelis have had a presence there for 3,000 years.

3. Practical Value: Israel is able to bring more food out of a desert environment than any other country in the world.

4. Humanitarian Concern: There were 6 million Jews slaughtered in Europe in World War II. The persecution against the Jews had been very strong in Russia... If we are not going to allow them a homeland in the Middle East, then where?

5. Israel's Friendship: Whether we realize it or not, Israel is a deterrent to certain groups hostile to democracies and hostile to what we believe in. They have kept them from taking complete control of the Middle East. If it were not for Israel, they would overrun the region. They are our strategic ally.

6. Roadblock to Terrorism: The war we are now facing is not against a sovereign nation; it is against a group of terrorists who are very fluid, moving from one country to another. They are almost invisible. We need every ally we can get. If we do not stop terrorism in the Middle East, it will be on our shores.

7. God Said So: The Bible says that Abram removed his tent and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar before the Lord. Hebron is in the West Bank. It is at this place where God appeared to Abram and said, ``I am giving you this land,'' - the West Bank.

This is not a political battle at all. It is a contest over whether or not the word of God is true. The seven reasons, I am convinced, clearly establish that Israel has a right to the land.
