These performances would only go on for another few years however, and by the end 2004 the band had called it quits. Though rumors popped up quite frequently, diehard Phish fans were very pessimistic about the chance of a reunion any time soon. Many sought out other outdoor music festivals of the same genre, and in the process have discovered some talented bands and great times without either of the two most iconic counter culture bands in history.
Fast forward now if you will, to the present - year 2008. The jam band music scene, inspired greatly by the likes of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead and the band Phish, has been evolving rapidly and growing larger and larger by the day. It was only weeks ago when the surviving members of the Grateful Dead announced their newest tour plans for the year 2009. But if this wasn't enough to send counter culture fans for a loop, Phish has now announced some details for their planned tour of 2009, as well.
Set to take March 6, 2009 through March 8, 2009, the 3 day run (just like the runs that made them famous) will take place at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia. Only a very limited number of tickets are being made available for this highly anticipated run of 3 shows, and the only way to purchase them is by phone or online. To help curb scalpers, tickets that cost $49.50 a piece are being limited to only 2 per show, per order.
No other dates have been announced for Phish in 2009, though word is that they plan on making that announcement sometime in the near future. All of this news has new jam bands fan, Phish followers and ex-deadheads alike all clamoring to purchase tickets and make travel plans for what is shaping up to be an out of this world 2009.
