It Could Be Anything

A Poem

Marcus Faith

It could be anything
I'll be waiting for it patiently
with eyes like adamantine will and
shirts I bought for eighteen cents
that keep me warm when sunset hits.
It could be anything at all but I won't be
surprised
it could be platform shoes on giant feet
with toes of ruby oil paint.
It could be anything.
Dragons coming down from heaven breathing smoke
and burning coughs that scorch like mighty suns.
It could be anything.
Ufo's that bounce like stones upon the airy
higgs field funny ghosts, it could be trying to kill
me with a phaser but captain kirk is on his way here.
It could be anything but I wont flinch.
I'll be expecting it.
I'll be waiting for it all.
It could be anything.
It could be fascist rods against my face at midnight
asking me to sing their fascist songs.
And they'll take me to their commander
and his name shall be alexander, he was raised in
new nebraska, and he moved here from alaska,
he remembers polar bears and aurora nights and eskimo
kisses that were more than kisses and army tunes that
were too untrue to make him smile. It could be anything.
It could be anything.
It could be birds and bees
and bright green trees and
big brown stumps all full of lumps.
It could be anything. It could be anything.
It could be anything. It could be anything.
It could be anything.
