It is Easy Being Green: Tips on Eco-Friendly Green Laundry Products

Lynda Braun
It truly can be easy "being green. " Just switch to using eco-friendly green laundry products and you can help our planet earth.

Seventh Generation is becoming quite a popular eco-friendly product. This company is based in Burlington, Vermont and uses only plant derived biodegradable components. It offers three laundry detergents; Laundry-50 ounces, Ultra Liquid Laundry-100 ounces, and 2X Liquid Laundry Free and Clear 50 ounces. These products pose no health risks and are safe for our environment. Chlorine beach is never used. The most interesting fact about "Seventh Generation" is that you can go to their website and view a "Savings Ticker." This is a visible account based on sales from 1999 to the present day. It is based on average daily sales in North America. It keeps count of how many trees are saved and how many gallons of petroleum are saved by using their products. Presently, 307,248 trees have been saved and 675,571 gallons of petroleum have been saved. I have personally used "Seventh Generation" products and have been quite impressed with the results.

Why not try this product and watch these numbers continue to rise, making our environment a better place for our children? "Seventh Generation" laundry products can be purchased online . A&P, Drug Fair, Target, Shoprite, Stop and Shop, and Walgreens are a list of some of the stores that sell these products.

Arm and Hammer products have been around a long time. Their reliable name is a comfort to consumers who are willing to switch to "Being Green." They offer Baby Laundry-Liquid Detergent, Delicate Care, and Free & Clear Chlorine Free Bleach. "Arm and Hammer" products are nontoxic, hypo-allergenic, free of phosphates, not tested on animals and are Kosher Certified. I didn't realize that even after the washing machine's spin and rinse cycle, a lot of detergent residue remains in the washing machine and in your clothing, which can pollute the environment. Using eco-friendly green laundry products sounds better and better, and I think the average consumer may just consider "Being Green." I wish these products were available when my children were babies, but it is never to late to try something new. I especially like the idea of using products that are safer for our skin, thus, helping our environment at the same time. "Arm and Hammer" products can also be purchased online. A&P, Drug Fair, Target, Shoprite, Stop and Shop, and Walgreens also sell these products.

As always, I prefer my readers have a twist or alternative choice. There is a product called "Cot'nWash" which is made from organic ingredients. It contains no fiber altering enzymes which can destroy clothing. In addition, it can be used with all temperatures, all colors, and all clothing. It is phosphate free and biodegradable and there is no animal testing done on this product. "Cot'nWash" is super concentrated so the consumer uses less water. This product has a low sudsing formula which is recommended for use with HE (high effeciency) washing machines which use less water and less energy. This eco-friendly green product comes in two laundry detergents. The first one is called Dropps which is a packet that does a whole load of laundry. The second product is called High Efficiency Liquid. These products are sold almost exclusively online, but I did find that many Shoprites do carry "Cot'n'Wash". Phone orders can also be placed at 1-800-355 Wash (9274). I have several friends that have used this product and have been very pleased with the results.

Let's give these products a try, and maybe we can tell Kermit the Frog that "It Is Easy to be Green!"

I have come by a laundry recipe that we at church, family, & friends are using. Here it is:
    Laundry Soap
    1 76 0z. box Borax
2 55 oz. boxes Arm & Hammer Soda (not regular baking soda)
2 bars gentle soap (such as Dove-grated)
    1/3 cup Oxi Clean power
Grate bar soap, combine all ingredients in a bucket and mix well.store with lid on.Add just one teaspoonful to a washing machine load.
this recipe is great for front loading machines.
Each recipe will cost about $12. & last approximately 3-6 months doing 6 loads a week. This is a huge savings compared to store bought soap.
