It Ends Tonight is the third song released from The All-American Rejects on their second album, called Move Along. This song is a ballad, contrary to their normal style. In a July 2006 interview, the band revealed that this song was written for a friend that broke up with her boyfriend, making this song about "a dude". This song made it to eighth on the Billboard Hot 100. This made the album raise forty-one spots. This was the highest charted single that the All-American Rejects until they released the first song from their next album, as Gives You Hell topped this song's performance. The first video for this song aired on August 28^th, 2006. It was on TRL. Deborah Lurie is responsible for the string arrangement for this song.

This song has been played on many television and sporting events. This song was used on the trailer of an episode of One Tree Hill. It was also used on All My Children. In the sixth season of Smallville, this song was used during the show and for a trailer of this episode. Battlestar Galactia also used this song, as well as Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. This song was used for a trailer of the second to last episode of a Singaporean drama show called Metamorphosis. This song was featured in sporting events, too. It was used in the 2007 NBA finals trailer for Game 4. It was also used during the end of the Winter X Games.
