It Isn't like it Sounds

April Fox
twice now
in the darkness
i have laid back on the ground
and caught a faint glimpse of a star
falling down

under the circumstances someone
wrapped in much more faith than i am
might see omens
or a portent
or a sign

and so i struggle with the concept
placing trust in someone else's hands
the giving up
the leaving
of control

if i don't believe in anything
how can i trust in my defenses
how can i be certain
that i won't be wrong

and if the words fell like stars
they'd be gone before they got here
and there is something in this moment
that i need

close your eyes
let the sky deflate
there is only now
and in the atmosphere
we are in the stars.
