It Isn't Often that Christian Movies Go Mainstream, "The Grace Card" Should Be an Interesting Film.

An Interesting Film About Redemption, Race and Reconciliation Out of Memphis Should Be an Entertaining Movie for the Entire Family

The Grace Card is a new Christian movie set to play in theaters on February 25th. I saw the trailer a few weeks ago, and just received a reminder today from Family Christian Bookstores about the film. To give you a quick synopsis about the film, an angry police office who is trying to get over the death of his son meets a part time pastor moonlighting as a police officer. They have to find the grace to help each other through trying times.

It isn't clear what the relationship between the two are or what brought them together, but their appears to be a theme of reconciliation that is definitely worth looking into. The budget is extremely tight, at less than a million dollars, and production was in Memphis, but the movie does have a major star, Louis Gossett, Jr. Family Christian Bookstores is already selling a devotional guide and study guides based on the film. The actual passage referenced is Ephesians 2:8, which talks about being saved, by grace, through faith. If you continue to read though it also states that salvation is the gift of God, not through works, so that no one can boast.

Basically that just means that we cannot save ourselves, and that God's grace saves us through our faith. At times that means that we come into contact with someone else that God is dealing with that brings that Good News to us. The pastor that feels that he is not being effective and not making a difference in anyone's lives is that person for the angry police officer. The actual grace card, shows the pastors dedication to continue to pray for the police officer in that he can let go of his anger and find peace. The concept is interesting.

The film is not playing everywhere though. I see no plans for it to play in the Hampton Roads area, for example, not even in one of the seven cities. Out of curiosity I checked to see if it was playing back home, and I didn't see where it would play in Cleveland either, though one theater in Akron picked it up. Only one theater in Washington DC has it, and only two in New York City. I can only hope that the movie does well and other theaters come on board later on. If you want to see the movie in your hometown you can always contact the email address on the "find a theater" page on their website.

Sounds pretty typical but should be a good film to see, especially if the acting is well-done.
