It May Sound Shocking, but I Support Tasers

There are so many stories occurring in the news about the controversy surrounding the use of the Taser. I feel that as a citizen who has decided to ignore the law, you have two options: you can be shot with a gun or you can be stunned with a very low amount of amperage through a Taser. Many people claim that the Taser has caused numerous deaths, but the use of a gun has most certainly caused more. I personally would rather have my muscles tense up and I possibly feel a little bewildered, than for there to be a hole through my body caused by a bullet.

Our nation is built upon freedom and order. These two ideals are in constant struggle with each other as to which one is more important. Republicans basically believe more in order and the Democrats mostly believe that freedom is of the utmost importance. I believe there should be a balance for both in our society as their currently is. What I care about most is my security, which means there needs to be a slight emphasis on order. Using the Taser brings the least lethal way of sustaining order and our overall safety. I believe that the Taser is a magnificent tool that should be utilized by all law enforcement. If you do not want to the police to use force in the form of a gun or Taser, then listen to what they say. Do not run away and if they tell you to get on the ground then do it! Do not attempt to tell your side of the story; this is not the time for that. You have rights and laws that protect you so do not make things worse on yourself by doing something outrageous.

Yes, police brutality has been fraught throughout the history of our law enforcement. I am not condoning any of the acts that have taken place but I am going to play Devil's advocate for a second. Imagine you are an officer and your job is to maintain the peace and security of all people. You go out day to day to risk your life for the betterment of everyone else. When you are apprehending a suspect, you have no idea what this person is going to do. You most certainly do not always know if he is carrying a weapon of some sort. All that runs through your mind is that this is a very serious situation and you hope that you will live through it to see your family again. These are normal everyday people that have chosen to serve you and make our lives more livable. I know that they made this choice to risk their lives but they are doing it for you. Imagine what are world would be like without law enforcement. There are other countries where the police do not care and they will just shoot you if you do not listen. At least in this great country, the police protect your to have rights and strive to keep you safe.

The Taser is a marvelous weapon that I am happy has become an everyday instrument. It is not easy for law enforcement to do there job with so many regulations and civil battles that take place. I hope that citizens will see the bigger picture of the situation. The Taser is no where near as deadly as a gun. The police are even going the extra mile to maintain your safety by using it. There was a time that if you decided to run, the police would shoot you in the leg. When this happened, there was no guarantee that you would be able to walk again. What if you were disobeying the law and the officer walks towards you with his gun drawn where he suddenly trips over something. He could stumble across an item that he did not see because he was focused on you and accidentally pull the trigger. BANG, bullet through the head or the heart. I would much rather an officer be walking towards me with a Taser and use that on purpose or on accident. People are not perfect. Police officers are people and we need to remember that. I believe that the Taser is a very value piece of equipment that all law enforcement officers should be allowed to use. Some times they do go after the wrong person, which I am sure that person would much rather walk away with a little shock than a bullet stuck in their body. Tasers keep the streets safer and even protects those whom it is used upon. I support Tasers and I hope that the rest of society will see how indispensable they really has become. Technology is wonderful and we must not stop it from making our world a better place in the long run. Taser are and should be here to stay.
