It is not the sane man
who sits huddled in robes -
sixty degrees in the house and shivering.
It is not the sane man
who listens to endless hours of foreign film
seeking inhuman human contact.
It is not the sane man
who paces a ceaseless circle considering
the proper sequence of three words.
It is not the sane man
who eats butter
with soup spoons.
It is not the sane man
who writes these lines instead of letters
torn up a thousand time in three days.
It is not the sane man
who lies in his bed cursing a god that is not
for giving and taking and taking away.
It is not the sane man
who does these things -
it is I.
