Though no less holy and no less bright.
Weary travelers seek refuge with family and friends.
Dusty city houses thousands in stables and inns.
60 mile trek, afoot, and with Child,
Mary presses among the crowd.
Joseph searches frantic for a place to stay.
In prophetic despair his wife and Christ-child rest on hay.
Away from the city hillsides are silent.
Skies fill with lights, angels, and singing in a moment.
Roughened shepherds receive news of a King.
Leaving flocks, they rush to the city, worshipping.
Fighting their way through the crowd,
They find the baby swaddled in a shroud.
The past and the future meet in a manger,
Love born to sacrifice for world full of strangers.
It was not a quiet night in Bethlehem
Thou no less holy and no less bright.
