Italian Goulash Recipe

Katy Mack
Have you ever ordered goulash from a restaurant and thought they could have added something else to it? Or that it was just too bland so you pile on salt and pepper hoping it will help it? You can add anything you want within reason to goulash to make the taste pop. Various vegetables and meats go well together. Same with spices. You just have to find the right combination and you will have a very tasting meal for your family. Here is a recipe for goulash that will make your taste buds melt in your mouth from flavor. This recipe has been in my family for ages and every now and then we add or take out something to try to make it better. What is included in the recipe shown here is one of the after effect that will make your mouth explode with a ton of flavor.

Mack Family Goulash:

Ingredients:
1 pound (or more depending on the number of people eating) elbow noodles
1.5 pounds ground beef (brown before you add)(leftovers work well too)
1 pound chopped Italian sausage or Kielbasa
2 cans of diced tomatoes (juice included)
2 cans of tomato paste
4 cans of sliced mushrooms
1 large diced onion (or 3 small ones)
1 diced green bell pepper (colors can vary)
1 Tbs. Garlic Powder
1 Tbs. Onion Powder
2 Tbs. Onion Flakes
2 Tbs. Parsley Flakes
1 Dash of salt
1 Dash of pepper
2 Tbs. Italian Seasoning
1 Tbs. Oregano
1 Tbs. Ground Sage

Cooks best in a Slow cooker all day while your at work.
Take the ground beef and Italian sausage and brown them in a frying pan with a light layer of cooking spray on it. In the slow cooker put the tomatoes, tomato paste, onion, mushrooms, peppers, and spices. Add the meat once it is browned. If using leftovers, just add to the slow cooker. Turn on low and let sit for at least 5 hours. If pressed for time turn on hire and wait at least 2 hours. When ready to eat, spoon out with a ladle and enjoy! Top with Parmesan Cheese.

Serves approx 4-8 people depending on serving sizes desired.

You can exchange or just add hotter peppers for a spicier kick. Also leftover meatloaf, Kielbasa, or just hamburgers and hotdogs will work for the meat choices. Experiment and try all kinds to get different tastes.

If going for a hotter version of this recipe, spices you can add are:
1 Tbs. Chili Powder
1 Tbs. Crushed Red Pepper
2 Tbs. Tabasco Sauce
