Items Not to Buy at the Dollar Store

Our community recently added two new stores. We now have a Dollar Tree and Everything a Dollar. A small community like ours, which is rural and poor, really was happy to see the influx of two such dollar stores. I am a frequent shopper there. Everyone tells you what to buy at the dollar store, I am going to tell you what not to buy.

Often times, you can end up with great bargains at the dollar store.. But what many people don't kine, is that the quantity or amount is often reduced. That is why you can get the items for a dollar. Food items are usually a safe bet to buy, as they are regulated sizes. But there are other items to be wary off. You may not be getting the best bargain.

1) Aluminum food and plastic wrap. These come in the traditional size containers, so you think your getting a full size roll. But when comparing it to other aluminum foils and plastic wraps, you are getting a lesser around. The average roll of aluminum foil has 20 to 25 feet of the foil. The one at the local Dollar Tree only had ten. The same is true for the plastic wrap.

2) Toilet paper. I have nothing against recycled paper, but their paper was recycled and in addition, there were less sheets on the roll . You can purchase either a two pack roll or a four pack. I have to apologize, but I would rather pay a bit more and get sturdier toilet paper.

3) Dish detergent. This one is pretty visible, however some people might get tricked. Most of the dish detergent's come in a smaller bottle. Although the bottle is shorter, it looks a bit wider, but it has less detergent in it than a traditional bottle , I have seen full size bottles of detergent there on occasions, so be sure and shop around before buying dish detergent at the dollar store.

4) Crayons. Crayons are crayons right? Wrong. The crayons sold at our local dollar stores are waxier in consistency. I recently bought my grand daughter some there, and when using them, they don't color correctly. They must contain more wax then crayons bought elsewhere.

5) Medicines. While the vitamins and aspirin come in regular size bottles, with regular amounts, the same can not be said about some medication. The antibiotic ointment looks like a regular tube, but has much less . The allergy medication comes in packages of five. If you don't read the label you wouldn't know this as the package is the same size as a full package.

By now your wondering if I would recommend shopping at the Dollar Tree and Everything's a Dollar. I highly recommend shopping at these stores, but my warning is to read all labels carefully before buying. You may not be purchasing what you think you are.
