It's All Good

A Father's Promises

J. David Barron
Today's Promise is one of the foundational tenets of our shared faith. It is one of the Scriptures all who confess Jesus as Savior would do well to not only memorize, but endeavor to recall and live when circumstances appear bleak.

It is a Word of life.

Romans 8:28 declares for all posterity, "And we know all things work together for good to those who love God, who are called according to His purpose."

If you believe God loves you, that He has called you out of the darkness of living apart from Him, that He has heard and acted upon your request for Him to use you, and that subsequently His hand is evident in orchestrating your life for His glory, then know, He says, that your life will be victorious. Each of us will have victory in our struggle to exist so that we will finish with the assurance of our lives counting. All of us will make a difference for the better.

Our Father is constantly working His glory (His character) in us and through us in instance upon instance of our daily lives. He never does just one thing. Rather, His actions are like the ripples on a lake after we throw a rock in the water. The affect continues until the entire body of water is impacted - all the way to the other shore.

I am currently enduring a situation where God is allowing man's laws to bring needed closure to past chapters of my life so that I can go from here and be blameless in the services He has planned for me. The process is a pain, to be sure, but I can readily see not only the necessity, but the victory.

Now. I couldn't when it all began. I only sensed alarm, then distress, accompanied by gloominess in imagining depressing consequences. Now I can practically hear Jesus say - as a Friend, not condemning me - "Oh you of little faith."

It takes faith to please God (Hebrews 11:6), which is why we live a faith instead of practicing dead religiosity. Our Father is alive, and He wants our faith to be just as vibrant, which explains why He has set the parameters of our relationship with Him as they are. We must accept Him as Spirit and learn to live with Him and for Him in that dynamic (see John 4:24). And that takes faith.

Kinda seems like He knows what He is doing, huh?

You can rest assured He is just as in charge of any current predicament you are experiencing. All things may not be good, but He is promising us right now through this vital passage of our faith that He will work all things for our good - because we love Him. And, this verse states, because His plan is The Plan which He lovingly allows us to play a principle part in His story (history).

God has a purpose for each of us. He is not capricious, allowing us to exist randomly and watching while our lives unfold by accident. If that were so, then He wouldn't embody love, and He couldn't claim to be omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. In short, He wouldn't be much of a god, would He?

Let us each submit ourselves to His process while we commit today's Promise to memory. The process is not going to be short-circuited, but by seizing the encouragement He is meaning to give us courtesy of this verse, we can well remember that He has our whole world in His very capable and incredibly loving hands.
