It's Always Spring Cleaning with Flylady.com

As Part of an Effort to Maintain Some Order I'm Still Spring Cleaning. I Use the Flylady Method

Susan Antonelli
I'm on a bender. This one started several months ago and hasn't stopped.I discovered flylady. I'm purging. I am overwhelmed with being overwhelmed . After cleaning out three homes (relatives) I realized there is such a thing as too much stuff. Then I found flylady, it's a good time to become "flylady". Flylady is a concept that puts you back in control when it comes to cleaning and organizing your home. You can do it on your own or you can join the link at flylady.com. The flylady site is about getting a grip on your home. The site will send you alerts with the chore of the day. It offers little pep talks in case you feel yourself back sliding.

You should be able to look in your closet and see what you have without pushing through piles. You should be able to see the floor of the closet. There are only 365 days in a year you don't need an outfit for each day. With matching shoes. Are you becoming a hoarder? Too much clothing. Are there things in your closet you haven't worn for at least a year? Are there things you think you are going to slim down and fit into?, Are you holding on to certain pieces of clothing for sentimental reasons? All good questions to ask yourself if you are accumulating more than you need.

This concept of flylady applies to every area of the home. Too many toys? Look in any child's playroom or bedroom and you will see what looks like Toys R Us on speed. And yet, Christmas is coming and you can be sure there will be plenty under the tree for these children. Toys, games and puzzles, missing pieces. Enough sports paraphenalia to outfit a few teams not just one or two children. My daughter just purged all her sons baby clothing. Those boys are 6 and 8. It certainly was about time and the children's closets are bare and beautiufl now.

Are there dust bunnies on a fourth generation of breeding? Are there places you haven't even looked at let alone cleaned? Flylady introduces you to a simple, easy step by step way to deal wit all this no matter how hectic your schedule is. After doing this awhile it all becomes simple maintenance.

flyady encourage thes purge. They purge by the pound. Flylady suggests figuring how much weight your house has lost by cleaning out the basement, garages or any area and giving your piles a "weight". You can guesstimate, of course.

Books, magazines, brochures, catalogs always seem to accumulate. Too many books, how many books do you need to keep around once you've read them pass them on. Fly lady will help you purge your way through all this.

Flylady.com offers a way for the side tracked "home executive" (that's you) to make your home pleasant, welcoming and free of clutter. They will send you flymail and you can read the fly lessons on how to declutter, clean and make sense of your home. It will help you dig out from under. This way you won't have that can't have anyone over syndrome.

Each week they offer you a zone to work on. For instance this is zone 3 week , the bathroom and one other room. The week is broken down into days. Zone 3 mission #1 for instance. Bathroom. Get the cobwebs off the ceilings, clean the vents. No vent? Clean the light fixture. The office is the other room this week. They will walk you thorugh how to clean those spaces, quickly and efficiently. They suggest when you use the bathroom always wipe down the sink and faucets. They break the bathroom down into small areas, the front of the vanity, the mirrors and ledges. They suggest making a of anything you might need there., soap, toothpaste, wipes. You can work top to bottom or vice versa. Some weeks it's paper clutter. Ditch all those odd papers that become piled up here and there. Other week it may be clean the grill. There are simple little assignments that keep you motivated, nothing overwhelming, nothig that wil have you on your hands and knees for hours. It's always done in baby steps.

Speaking of babies you'd be surprised how much the kids enjoy helping when cleaning is part of a master plan. They become fly kiddies. My grandsons think there' s nothing better than cleaning the bannister. Go figure.

Flylady offers a food shopping, menu planning concept so you have a handle on what to serve all week. By planning hte week you can simplify your food shopping and make it more efficient. The menus are not complicated. They also offer Holiday menus. This wil save you time as well as money.

Flylady also sells a flylady calender if you're so inclined, so you can write down important dates, what you need to pay attention to in the house. Things on that order. They also suggest keeping a list of hotspots, aras that seem to become cluttered very easily. Another idea is dividing the home into zones that you can tackle one by one. That's where the zone of the week comes in.

Go to flylady.com and read through their page. You might just get inspired to join in and take control of your life. This is an excellent motivational site once you get into the program it's actually fun and challenging. Once you've been in the program awhile you'r house will shine and you'' be much more relaxed and in control..

  • You can divide your home into zones and make each zone part of a mission
Purging is fun when you actually figure out by weight how much you've gotten rid of.

I love Flylady! I unsubscribed a while back because of all the emails, but I think I'm going to subscribe again in digest format because it was a reminder of what I needed to be doing. Great article!
