It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Season 5 Review

Life
Now that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 5 has come to a close, I thought I'd give my review on the season episode by episode. Enjoy.

Season 5 Episode List

S05E01 "The Gang Exploits the Mortgage Crisis"

Charlie demonstrates in expertise in the field of legal studies, while Dee offers to be a surrogate mother to a family that seems rather well-off while the gang takes advantage of their sweet house and swimming pool.

S05E02 "The Gang Hits the Road"

The gang plans a trip to the Grand Canyon and we learn that Charlie has never even been outside of Philadelphia.

S05E03 "The Great Recession"

The bar tries to make the best out of their bar in touch economic times, but Frank hanging from the rafters in the middle of Paddy's Pub probably isn't too good for business. Charlie has his own plans of becoming a fisherman by catching runoff crabs from the Delaware. My favorite quote is Charlie saying "We're crab people now! We'll live and die by the crab, we'll eat off the fat of the sea!"

S05E04 "The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention"

The gang decides to give Frank an intervention because he is starting to get reckless with his drinking. In doing all this, the gang discovers a brilliant idea where they fill coke cans with boxed wine, allowing them to get drunk anywhere at any time.

S05E05 "The Waitress is Getting Married"

Dee can't stand to let the waitress get married before she does. This leads Dee to do anything she can to make sure the wedding never goes through. Meanwhile, Charlie gets set up on a date. When he arrives at this nice restaurant he is drenched in sweat, and his date is waiting. It's decided should pretend that he's not a janitor, and instead should say he's a philanthropist. "What do you do again?" Charlie: "I'm a... full on rapist."

S05E06 "The World Series Defense"

The gang tries to appeal a parking ticket they got a year ago by defense of Phillies winning the World Series. Charlie gets in a brawl with the Philly Phanatic in his green man suit, and Mac proclaims his (non-sexual) love for Chase Utley.

S05E07 "The Gang Wrestles for the Troops"

Pretty self explanatory episode here, the gang puts on a professional wrestling show for the troops. Meanwhile, Dee has been talking to someone online who turns out to be the opposite of what she expected.

S05E08 "Paddy's Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens"

The gang needs to promote Paddy's Pub however they can. Charlie invents Kitten Mittens, while Mac and Dennis develop a plan they think is going to make them rich. In reality, the plan involves giving away a full inventory of beer for fake money.

S05E09 "Mac and Dennis Break Up"

S05E10 "The D.E.N.N.I.S. System"

Dennis explains his full proof system designed to successfully seduce any woman you desire. The Dennis systemi s an acronym for demonstrate value, engage physically, nurture dependence, neglect emotionally, inspire hope, separate entirely. This differs from Frank's plan, which consists of a wad of hundreds, magnum condoms, and a smooth line such as "when can I hit that?"

S05E11 "Mac and Charlie Write a Movie"

Dee scores a part in a new M. Night Shyamalan film, while Mac and Charlie decide to write their own movie, entitled The Fifth Sense. Meanwhile, Dennis is busy rubbing up on his new touch screen phone.

S05E12 "The Gang Reignites the Rivalry"

It's been ten years since the ultimate flip cup competition, appropriately named Flipadelphia, and the gang is determined to do whatever they can to make sure Dee doesn't screw this up for them. Highlights include Danny DeVito in slim fit skinny jeans, and Dennis returning to his old fraternity house at UPenn where he is a self-proclaimed LEGEND.

S05E13 "A Very Sunny Christmas"

This Christmas special is a straight to DVD release, which means the gang is allowed to use as much profanity as they want. Fully uncensored It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: It's A Very Sunny Christmas is hilarious, and this Christmas special is filled with the goods. Twenty dollars may be a steep price for one episode, but this is longer than any previous episodes totaling about 40 minutes, and there is a bonus disk with a Christmas sing-along which is rather disturbing, yet hilarious, and also other extras. Mac, Dee, Charlie, and Dennis have trouble getting into the Christmas spirit as they recollect their childhood experiences associated with the holiday. Highlights include a naked Danny DeVito being birthed from a leather couch, and Charlie going Mike Tyson on a mall rent-a-Santa.

This concludes the episodes in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 5. This season did not disappoint at all, and as always, I'm going to go crazy waiting for the next season of one of my favorite shows on television.
