"It's a Baby Killer" Shouted by Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) After Healthcare Vote

Julia Bodeeb
Texas pride is tarnished today. Last night, after the health care reform vote Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) shouted "It's a baby killer." He has now apologized to Bart Stupak. He noted that "his constituents fear and do not support" health care reform, notes MSNBC.

Rep. Randy Neugebauer's statement was beyond crass. There really isn't any apology that could mend the feelings of horror that everyone in the room must have felt at hearing this gruesome statement, which is not based in reality. As usual, a Republican tries to slant reality to suit his far right, religious beliefs. And again petulance rules as Republicans lose a battle.

Just like the Tea Party members shouting outside the Republicans are shouting disgusting comments inside. Yesterday the Tea Party members were shouting the "N" word and spitting on Democratic member of Congress.

And previously Republican Joe Wilson shouted "You lie" to the president Obama. The Republicans show over and over that they cannot control their anger; they use name calling to try to demonize others.

Republicans at first denied that one of their members made this horrific comment. However, many Democrats thought the comment was directed personally at Bart Stupak. The Republicans are now the party of lies. Lie, lie, lie, that's all they seem to do.

The phrase "baby killer" is so graphic and distasteful. Any grown man who would use this wording in a political arena deeply lacks decorum and civility. The phrase also has religious overtones; Republicans constantly try to erase the line between government and religion. That line needs to be held firm.

Also, when Republicans fought so fiercely against health care reform, did they worry about all the children who do not have health coverage? No they did not. When they started the war in Iraq did they worry about all the kids who would no longer have a parent cause they were killed in the war? No they did not.

The Republicans don't care about kids. If they did they would have supported health care reform, which will help so many children be able to get the health care they need.

If Republicans cared about kids they would stop wasting money on wars and start spending more on education. While Bush was president the public schools in Texas, where he lived, had a horrifically low graduation rate. He didn't care about kids or he would have fixed the education disaster in Texas.

All the name calling in the world won't change the fact that Obama was elected and the Republicans lost. Now they lost again. Health care reform has passed. All the far right rhetoric did not change the fact that bringing health care reform to fruition is the right and the decent thing to do. It will save so many lives; it will help so many kids.

I'm no fan of Stupak. His rhetoric about abortion held up health care reform. However, this remark about babies surely was somewhat directed at him and that is inappropriate. And really abortion is such a moot issue at this point. Since AIDS women must use condoms and also another form of birth control too if they don't want a pregnancy. Abortion should be a thing of the past. I have always been against abortion. I'm Catholic.

Stupak has his beliefs and he fights for them. That is admirable. And no one has the right to yell vile comments at him or at whomever this crude comment was meant for.

God bless Nancy Pelosi, God bless President Obama. They are showing that America will do the right thing for its people. President Obama has saved the lives of so many people tonight, including children.

Julia, You are so right, and if you keep writing these pieces, I may just have to weigh in with my own thoughts. One of my political gurus, talk show host Randy Rhodes, always said that Republicans "love the fetus, but hate the baby", and I always could see that argument. They had no trouble with sending our kids to war, preventing parentless children from being adopted by same sex parents, or denying them healthcare, but mess with an unborn child really gets their uncooth dander up!

"Isn't there one decent Republican who will step forward..."

Probably not. And that's all I have to say about that. (Good article, though...)

The hypocrisy is self-evident to anyone who has a smidgeon of IQ. Where have the republicans been for the past 8 years on health care, as 45,000 people (including children) have died due to their lack of access to health care???

Remarks like that are always uncalled-for. I am anti-abortion myself. But I am also an Obama supporter and I firmly believe that our country desperately needs healthcare reform. And I am one of the fortunate people who is employed right now and is covered by health insurance. So many people are not covered, and that is a disgrace. I am also a registered Democrat (pro-life and all). I also think that starting a war in the Middle East was a terrible thing.

Although I don't agree with the comments here that the Republicans are like a mob, acting like a child is uncalled for. As far as government conrol of healthcare. It's a shame. If we cheer when our government continues to take over pieces of our society, maybe we are to blame for the idiots we put into the Senate and the Congress. There should be time limits in both houses. This is the only way we will be able to (as citizens)control the stupidity in our country's government. Many people are not happy about government healthcare because the government does a poor job when they control anything. Look at our public schools, look at the IRS, look at medicaire. The government control of anything is not the answer.

Repubs are sooo sooo sad. All they can do is fear monger like a bunch of stubborn, little babies. I think Obama set all the repubs up though...obviously he knew he wouldn't bi-partisan agreement in anything, repubs are notoriously known for being VERY ONE-SIDED... the fact that not even 1 republican supported this bill will come back to haunt them for generations and generations to come. Republicans have NO IDEA, I'm predicting a major collapse within the party.

Isn't it sad that Republicans are acting like the mob here? Attack, retreat, and protect Don Steele.

I heard it was George Radanovich. What class.
