It's Your Call

God Calling Message Essay for August 5, 2010

Today's God Calling message is about how near to us Jesus really is...how we don't need to plead with him to come to us in our time of need. He says in the message that our need is His call. I actually experienced that a couple of times today-things could have gone really bad and I could have ended up in trouble...but he stayed my hand. Not only that, but I was journaling a few minutes ago and ended with "I love you"-a form of praise, you could say. Immediately, a melody came to me. It was very soothing and peaceful-Jesus on the scene. He never fails me!!

I have to wonder about how many "calls" I've missed in my lifetime, for being too wrapped up in my own problems or too tired, or just too busy otherwise. There are a few things that come to mind when I read those words, "your need is my call." I think about Jesus, seeing the demoniac and casting the legion of demons out into the herd of swine. The demoniac wasn't even able, really to ask for Jesus' help. But he certainly had need of being delivered and set free from the demons. Then there was the widow whose only son had died. She was so grieved she didn't even know Jesus was there-at least the Bible doesn't mention it. But Jesus saw her need, and raised her son back to life.

One other thing comes to mind. It is the thought of Jesus washing the feet of the disciples; Jesus demonstrating that there is no service so small that it is not worth doing. And, if the Master of the universe can perform small menial service in love...It also tells me of what value we are to the Master of the universe; so special to him that no need is too great, or too small.

Everyone thinks about "The Call" to preach, to teach, to sing, or to go into missionary work. We're all called to preach the gospel, to teach our children, to sing praise, and we're all missionaries, whether we know it or not. Our lives are our pulpits! I believe there's a much higher calling. There may be an elderly neighbor, who can't get out much anymore to grocery shop, or get to an appointment without help. He or she may not be eating daily because it's just too much trouble to make a meal for "just one." There may be a neighbor who's been ill this week and could really use someone to bring dinners or come and clean the house, do the dishes, etc., so they can recuperate. These needs, the child who needs some school supplies but Dad just lost his job, the little boy or girl in line in front of you who's 15 cents short so he or she will have to put the milk back...little needs, small services, these are the higher calls. They are the calls to the "moments."

All around the world there are "calls" to answer. They come in many forms, shapes, sizes, and ways. God, help me to hear those "calls" in my days and to be quick to respond.
