It's Clearer Now

An awakening of sorts
I come to understand
How much of a personal challenge
This all must have been

I guess I really never knew
The life you lived before
What you had to give up
Once I walked through the door

You've opened up and shared
More of the life you had
With each conversation
Some good, some bad

If I had only known
What you were going through
Perhaps I would have understood
What I never knew

In hind sight I want to say
That I am honored, at best
What you chose to give up
Putting yourself to the test

The freedom, the sacrifice
The women in your life
The love you have for me
To even think about taking a wife

Acceptance comes through understanding
This statement is true
